5. Honorable Confederate Soldiers

The Confederate soldiers who were honorable military men surrendered and were not taken prisoners of war. They were allowed to go home without penalty as recognition of their bravery, and admitted back as U.S. citizens and states.

Only cowards keep battle flags of surrendered armies. Honorable soldiers submit to defeat when generals surrender, and become soldiers of the larger army or simply go home.
