(1,667 posts)After 911 I was afraid to complain about a racists and islamaphobic email. I went to my manager, but I was afraid of the consequences. It's shameful, and not living up to my values, but I admit I was afraid.

(6,794 posts)by the internal pressure to conform. It's just the way us hunter/gatherers are with our fancy opposable thumbs and stuff. Slightly more evolved than dog packs, maybe.
Our conclusions are always based on the information we deem acceptable. "I judge that I am of sound mind. Now to convince the others and I'll be king." History is the recorded exploits of such clear thinkers. Consensual conclusions are super-powers.
There ARE consequences for non-conformity. The consensual conclusion that we can tolerate non-conformity without negative consequences is the heart of the US experiment. At least it is for some.
Faulty system, I'd say.
