Two sources told Vanity Fair that Rupert Murdoch has recently told people that he believes Donald Trump is going to lose the election in November.
Said one source: Rupert thinks Trump is going to crash and burn. Its a clear-eyed assessment, just based on just looking at the news.

(101,306 posts)Well, now we know what that contract was. Price explains in his book:
Blair and [Alastair] Campbell took to heart the advice of the Australian prime minister, Paul Keating, on how to deal with Murdoch: "He's a big bad bastard, and the only way you can deal with him is to make sure he thinks you can be a big bad bastard too. You can do deals with him, without ever saying a deal is done. But the only thing he cares about is his business and the only language he respects is strength."
Blair and his team believed they had achieved exactly that. A deal had been done, although with nothing in writing. If Murdoch were left to pursue his business interests in peace he would give Labour a fair wind.

He switched The Sun from the Tories, whom it has supported since at least 1979, to Labour under Blair. And then switched it back to the Tories when he saw Cameron could win.
To get open support, the Democrats would have to do a deal with him like Blair did, but Biden has too much integrity for that. But I expect Murdoch is making sure Fox News is prepared to survive under a Dem president, and even both Houses, just in case - which could mean the more outrageous BS gets reined back in just a little.

(14,173 posts)But if that is right about Blair, I'm afraid of that possibility. Biden making a "deal" with Fox News. Do you honestly have faith he wouldn't? ie..leave my businesses alone, (keep tax cuts, no new "Fairness Doctrine", no M4A) and he won't be too hard on him. Otherwise its full scale war for 4 years. It sure seems that Fox News rose in popularity when a Democrat was in office, as its even more of a legitimate cover to criticize the other party when they hold the reigns of power.

(46,080 posts)I don't trust anyone on Trump's side to be honest, even in private.
Just suppose that Murdoch said what was reported (hearsay) in private. He knows nobody can keep a secret and it would be just a matter of time before his statement became public.
The forces fighting Trump would do one of two things: A) Ignore it and keep fighting, or B) Become complacent. Sort of a riff on Lyndon Johnson's "When you've lost Cronkite . . . . "
If Murdoch and with whom he's working used Option B as their "strategy", it's only to weaken Trump's adversaries. (Hooray! We've won! All we have to do is wake up on Wednesday, November 4 and celebrate.) Murdoch honestly doesn't know any more than we do what's going to happen on Election Day.
Everyone (Joe Biden, Democrats, all of us) have to fight as though Trump is going to win, because if we don't, he will.
