Is one desolate hole since I my fur baby lost his fight to cancer last week. I've had to really fight being a total crab at work since. I've even thought of taking a journey but half the fun of that was how much joy that doggie gained from going somewhere with daddy.
Although I have work to distract me, maintaining that emotionally detached distance from all there is so essential. I have to give the vet I took him to credit at what a pleasant and peaceful demise they gracefully provided. Memorial pawprint plaque still to come in the mail.
I'm resisting a tremendous urge to adopt. I would if I had anyone I could really count on to puppysit, since providing there's a vaccine by wintertime, I'm planning a trip to Brasil.
Then in spring, this time I want to take on a Husky puppy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Dean

Howard Brush Dean III (born November 17, 1948) is an American physician, author, and retired politician who served as Governor of Vermont from 1991 to 2003 and Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from 2005 to 2009 and works as a political consultant and commentator.[1] Dean was a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2004 presidential election. His implementation of the fifty-state strategy as head of the DNC is credited with the Democratic victories in the 2006 and 2008 elections. Afterward, he became a political commentator and consultant to McKenna Long & Aldridge, a law and lobbying firm.

He was one row in front of me on a plane around that time. I caught up to him while walking off and had him autograph my newspaper. Still have it.

But I've known Howard for almost twenty years. Back when he was "Howard Who?" and he and I could trade guitar solos on the twelve string late into the night. (Those were the days)

By the way, that wikipedia entry is woefully incomplete. Howard is also a big environmental activist. He also was part of a big march from Bangkok to the Burmese border to bring local attention to human trafficking. Recently, he and Hillary have been involved in a low-key (but very active) group of organizations to recruit young Democrats to run for public office at the ground level--not making a lot of noise, but trying to catch up to something the Republicans had been doing effectively for years. In 2009, soon after Obama's inauguration, I asked him what he would do if Rahm Emmanuel managed to exclude him from the Obama administration. He said he would join some law firm for name recognition (for them) and some steady income (for him), and then spend most of the rest of his time "raising hell for causes I care about." True to his word, he has been doing that ever since.

Here we are on his last visit to my adopted home town of Düsseldorf with Mayor Thomas Geisel:

I had been somewhat blocked because I was a local government administrator and couldn't engage in partisan politics, but I thought Dean was a guy that could actually get things done and change the direction of the country.
Next time I got that invested in a candidate was the junior senator from Illinois in 2008.

Although the prominence Howard gained in his presidential campaign gave him such national recognition that he was elected as DNC chairman against the wished of many long-time members--luckily for us! What many in the DNC didn't realize is that the energy and imagination that propelled Howard from nobody to the covers of TIME and Newsweek within a year would serve the DNC far better than the usual same-old.

I first met that junior Senator from Illinois in 2006 when he was still just that. At the time, my younger daughter was in college in D.C. and was interning for EMILY's List, where Obama was a frequent guest, despite his gender. I got a hint of what was to come then. At the Denver convention two years later, on the night after his acceptance speech, I reminded him that he had come a long way from the days when he stopped by EMILY's List on a regular basis. He laughed, since he remembered.

The radio stations supply a dose of reality in a hurry. One area after another is a choice of country music, religious propaganda, and hard right wing talk.

That is it. That is what these people are exposed to.

Biden won't come close to winning half the states.

"The medium is the message."

The right wing media in most of the country is a HUGE obstacle to progress in much of the country. Here in Germany, we compare it to that little enclave of the former East Germany where most of the people were hard core loyal followers of the "socialist" Soviet-backed regime. Not coincidentally, that was the one part of East Germany where, due to geography and topography, western TV and radio was not available. The only "opinions" they heard were those of their own state propaganda, and they weren't aware that there WAS anything else.

The one zone I know of that is completely devoid of even any NPR options is driving across eastern AZ I-40, all the way till Albuquerque begins to provide sweet release from purely hateful, divisive, half-wit, usually two or three of them playing that fatassed blowhard SOB oxycontin-wack-off boy, one fire and brimstone, one native station chanting (I chose that, then it also went to RW nutjobbery) and of course, vomit producing goofball country stations. Since I've only had to make that crossing occasionally, only make short commutes otherwise, satellite radio is not financially feasible.
Sometimes I believe intervention with some pirate stations would be the Rx.
After consuming all that hate-stoking propaganda, no wonder those areas are so solidly "red". It's a wonder half that population hasn't physically exploded from sheer retention constipation.
I know that same area has a really bad COVID problem now.

Biden will win:

- AZ
- CA
- CT
- DE
- DC
- HI
- IL
- MA
- ME
- ML
- MN
- NV
- NH
- NJ
- NM
- OR
- PA
- RI
- VT
- WA

Total: 270

Trump will win:

- AL
- AK
- AR
- FL
- GA
- ID
- IN
- IA
- KS
- LA
- MI
- MO
- MT
- NE
- NC
- ND
- SC
- SD
- TN
- WV
- WY

Total: 192

Probables:

- Texas flips to Biden (long shot but it is possible it could happen) but most likely will go to Trump
- Florida goes to Trump
- Pennsylvania flips to Biden, causing Ohio and Michigan to flip
- Wisconsin flips to Biden

Total:

Biden - 308 (346 with Texas flipping)
Trump - 230 (192 with Texas flipping)

Here is the most likely of the multiple nightmare 269-269 scenarios (Trump would win as the Rethugs have 26 House delegations, and we cannot flip any off them more than likely (FL and WI it would take one flip) due to crazy gerrymandering, and they could even gain one.

A 269-269 Trump elected by the House guarantees insane violence and starts the civil war and /or dissolution of the Union 20 year (max) countdown clock (any Trump win does, even more so if the following other scenarios happen), especially if Biden wins the Popular vote by 5 million plus and even more so f the Rethugs retain the Senate and pull back the House, as Trump will go FULL NON STOP dictator, unlike anything we have seen yet.

All it would take to stop this btw (the map below) is for us to flip either ME-2 or NE-2 (or both)

IF we flip one, and Biden wins by 2 EV's (270-268), there will also be insane violence on the Rethug end, Trump will go full bonkers and call for civil war, and the chances of doom (globally) explode for the 2 and a half month lame duck session.

People are pissed off

We have a good chance to take over the State House of Representatives which will change the redistricting. There are 10 House districts that went Republican by single digit margins in 2018 yet went solid for Beto O'Rourke. Five of them have at least a portion in Tarrant County. It is going to be very interesting

It would be sweet to get landslide numbers like LBJ or FDR or Bill Clinton

In 1932, FDR got 42 states. Hoover got 6. Hawaii and Alaska weren't states yet.

Which reminds me, if Dems dominate in a blue wave let's get statehood for DC and Puerto Rico. 4 more Dem Senators!
