FLIPPABLE: Luisa Wakeman for GA-HD43
I know our community. For over 25 years, I have been an active member of the East Cobb community with my devoted husband, two wonderful children, and high-spirited dog.
Ive volunteered in classrooms, in our neighborhood, as a Girl Scout leader and band chaperone.
I know the value of hard work. Ive proudly spent over 30 years working for Delta Airlines as a flight attendant. But when the Great Recession hit, I had to do more. So I went back to school, then began working as a cardiac intensive care nurse as a second job. Because thats what you do when times are tough, when your family is in need. You step up.
I am not a career politician. I have ideas on how to fix healthcare, picked up from my time as a nurse. Ive learned how the State Capitol works from my time lobbying on important issues, such as the fight against guns in schools. Yet, while Im prepared to serve, Im not in anyones pocket. The only people I owe any favors to are you, the voter.
So why me? Why now? Its time to say enough is enough. No matter where you are on the political spectrum, we all know that our leaders have gotten too extreme. No one wants assault rifles in schools. We dont want draconian abortion laws that relegate women to second class citizens. Climate change is real, our elected officials should say so and act on it. The list goes on.
Im a proud Democrat. But more than anything I feel compelled to run, not because I want to advance an agenda but because we deserve better than the leaders we have today. Special interests and partisanship have pushed Georgia wildly off course to a place way out of step with our values. If you agree, Im your candidate. I would be grateful to have your vote.
