Melania Trump did not even like to be called by her new title at first.

“She said, ‘Stop calling me first lady,’ ” recalled one of the people who worked with Melania after the election.

The New York City mother known for sending emoji-filled texts was now being invited to give speeches around the country. For years, she and her husband had a bodyguard, but now she was being protected 24 hours a day by Secret Service agents. There was always someone standing guard outside her door, and the animosity directed at her husband worried her.

“At the core, I think she’s a private person who’s spent a lot of time adjusting to public life,” said one person who worked with Trump on the campaign and has remained close to the family.

While Melania stayed in New York, Ivanka continued to establish herself in the West Wing, notorious for its cramped and limited working spaces. According to several people, she was eyeing real estate in the East Wing as well, the domain of the first lady. Among other proposals, Ivanka suggested renaming the “First Lady’s Office” the “First Family Office.” Melania did not allow that to happen. It was tradition, and she was not going to let her stepdaughter change it.

humanize Melania Trump ahead of what could be (hopefully will be) her last few months in the White House. To differentiate her from the rest of the Trumps. (A - at least she's not Ivanka - defense is rather lame.)

She had an opportunity to act like a human when her husband caged children and families. Instead, she chose to make a fashion statement with an ugly message. The former sex worker from Slovenia has shown us who she is. We should believe her.

tRumpolini gets to prompt her if she forgets. She has to at least play the part of FLOTUS, even if her heart is not in it. She has mastered walking from the helicopter to the WH, looking strangely annoyed and aloof. She even ignores Barron when he is along for the trip. Poor kid almost always looks alone and sad. But how she acts, especially in public, is likely outlined in detail and the hand swatting incident was in a moment of extreme frustration for her. She isn’t required to act lovey dovey but she must remain at least civil. I notice most of the time she looks somewhat angry and bitter at her plight but she just needs to focus on all that beautiful money she will get when he kicks the bucket. IF there is any left after he gets sued and prosecuted to the hilt after he gets defeated this fall.
