The Republican Party is currently building an "army" of roughly 50,000 volunteers who will have the job of intimidating voters during the election in November. These "poll watchers" will be located primarily in swing states - specifically, areas of high minority populations in swing states - to threaten people with jail or fines if they vote illegally. Just the presence of these poll watchers has the effect of making people stay home, and that's exactly the point. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.BamaRefugee

(25,225 posts)these Repug thugs will be at. Intimidate the intimidaters is what needs to happen. We know now in advance that this is what they intend to do - so we must be prepared and take action now.
I don't want to hear all sorts of horror stories the day after the election. We need to be pro-active. No woulda, coulda, shoulda!!!

(14,047 posts)Suppose you have 180 citizens in line to vote. If these agents add an average of just 20 seconds of wait time per voter, they add an hour of waiting to those at the end of the line. Voters that have children to take care of or pick up from school, jobs, and businesses they need to get back to. Once they have gummed things up, more than a few will have to give up. Multiply that by 50,000 and target key precincts and they can have a substantial impact.
