In general, why do most white men vote Republican?

Not only white cops, firefighters, sanitation workers (I live New Jersey, a lot of white male government employees vote Republican), but white men in general?

What do they see in the GOP?

I am surprised to see so many white males in deep blue New Jersey drink the Trump kool-aid.

Sports talk radio ain't any better. They spout GOP talking points as well.

That doesn't mean that Democrats shouldn't write them off electorally, Democrats need 4 out of 10 white male votes to win, but why do a lot of them vote GOP?

He was horrible to the Canaanite woman, only because she was a different ethnicity. When she pleaded with him to help her child, first he rudely ignored her. Then he told her, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel," and compared her to a dog begging for scraps at the master's table. Only after she groveled enough to suit him, and agreed with his dehumanizing characterization of her, did he relent and heal her child. Matthew 15:21-28

As for his misogyny, how many of his disciples were women? Zero, right.

and, like donald trump, Cain wasn't a favorite of the bible.

Mary Magdalene was as much his disciple as any of them, but the misogynists who put the new testament together wouldn't have it.

The other disciples were actually jealous of her, because he told her things in private that he didn't tell them.

IMHO, Jesus was the ultimate liberal.

Exactly. He was rude to her, and compared her to an animal because of her descent, and for no other reason. It's no different than a modern-day racist comparing African Americans to animals.

The stories in the Bible don't portray Mary Magdalene as being equal to the disciples at any time. She doesn't seem to have been allowed to participate in most of their group activities. I suppose it could be argued that she was "separate but equal", but that doesn't sound too good, does it?

Supposedly they were inspired by God but the only way we know that is because they said they were. So one could surmise it was the men who wrote the Bible stories that were misogynists and racists and were projecting that onto their Bible story characters. And again take note that all the books in the Bible were written by men.

To them, women, minorities having equal status means that they no longer have the same level of power and control over society and they can't handle it and won't allow it. The GOP is the party that seeks to preserve that privilged status for them by keeping women and minorities "in their place" through voter suppression, policies that circumvent their power and status, etc.

I've known guys into sword collecting. I'm not one of them but I do like looking at them.
To these guys, there is a huge difference in quality between decorative & weapon swords. Decorative swords can take an edge, but won't be razor sharp & don't hold the edge.
So, one sword would cut, but not kill with a single blow.
With sword people, it's what sets weapon swords from decorative reproductions.
Now, let's be honest, a cheap steak knife could kill in the right circumstances, so it's a pretty fine point. But it matters to sword makers.

Before she bought, she researched the voting registrations and election outcomes in her prospective town. Dems are 70+ % of registered voters in her town. Dems win the elections. Yet, when I drive around there, all I see are Trump signs. I have yet to see a Biden sign. Biden will win N.J. so I have no concern about this.

Why do they support Republicans? They are frustrated. Their jobs suck and they have little hope of anything getting better. If anything, things have gotten and will continue to get worse. And who's to blame? I don't have to answer that for you, do I?

We can't provide them the racist hug, that comes from Repubs, we can hold a mirror up to them and show them that they are scared fucking pussies.

Sat Jun 13, 2020, 04:27 PM

Setting aside racists and sociopaths, the next big predictor is cultural. People very often are imbued with the belief systems of their parents, their peers, and their community. Young minds can be influenced by negative or harsh treatment for lack of conformity to the cultural belief system -- especially when politics are intermixed with religion. Add to that the confirmation bias of decades of programming from rightwing talk radio & Fox News, what you get are tens of millions of voters enraged at Democrats and liberals who they believe are trying to tear down everything they hold sacred -- God and country.

People caught up in all that will seldom if ever be able to admit they've been conned and that nearly every political belief they hold is based on a mountain of lies. They can't admit it to themselves, and they certainly won't confess it to others. Perhaps if their life brings them to live in other environments or other countries and make friends who have a very different and more reality based wordlview they can change, but most people never leave their bubble.

Growing up on the far southwest side of Chicago, I can tell you that racism was very prevalent in my working class neighborhood. My family was an exception, with parents and an elderly aunt who were very progressive. The N-word in our non-religious household was a sin. One morning in April 1968 I came downstairs to find my aunt sobbing. She had just heard that MLK was assassinated. When I went to school that day there was an air of celebration on the playground. The parents of my peers were happy "they finally got" the N*****!

Another prevalent attitude aside from racism is greed, or at least the argument that people who work hard for their money shouldn't have their taxes going to support a bunch of lazy good for nothings who'd rather be on the public dole than go find a job. I got mine, now you go get yours. They believe Democrats perpetuate dependency on government programs to win elections.

But why are men more likely than women to still support Hair Twitler? Well, I think the fairer sex truly is (in general) more fair, sensitive, and kind. Also, this POtuS is a serial adulterer and a sexual predator who has openly degraded women based on their appearance and an offensive vindictive bully. Human beings who have experienced motherhood tend to frown upon such things, whereas men are more likely to respond more positively to macho bravado from a blowhard who says out loud what they think.

Anyway, that's my thoughts on the topic of this thread.

In America the majority of Americans are a few missed pay checks from homelessness. In most states Americans can be fire at will with the exception af a few protected classes. In most states if there is a dispute about unemployment, rental agreements, bank errors, and a host of other things, the law tends to side with power and wealth instead of the average person.

At the same time America has a probusiness anti government, anti working class propaganda machine that plays 24/7.
"You work for a living and brown people get special secret welfare". "Your job is in danger because liberals have placed too many regulations on business". "Universal Health Care means you get lower quality care so brown people can get better". Brown people want to steal your job".
