As coronavirus cases spike, officials say NC is in 'first wave,' needs to flatten curve

North Carolina is experiencing its “first wave,” or peak, of coronavirus cases, as the percentage of positive cases continue to rise, the state’s top health official said Friday.

The state’s positive coronavirus test rate remains among the highest in the country and has continued to rise, said Dr. Mandy Cohen, secretary of the N.C. Department Health and Human Services.

Testing has reached record levels statewide, Cohen added, so more positive cases would be expected. But she said that’s not the only reason for the spike. The disease is growing through communal spread, she said.

I have seen no "flattening" of new cases. Each week has more cases than the last.

NC has met ZERO criteria for opening up.

...that Illinois was the only state to meet all 5 CDC criteria before going into Phase 3 of 5.

Here's a link to that post in the Illinois group.

is reopening his gym this month. We will go there and check it out. How he will handle the pandemic will determine if we will train now or wait. One problem we will have is amateur boxing rules for senior citizens is you can only box people that are not more than 10 years younger or older than you. My husband is 77 and I am 71 so we may be able to only box each other if boxing someone of the opposite sex is allowed.

Governor Cooper managed to avoid that first wave, but now it's hitting.

We're still not even open. Despite what some say here.
