Not sure if she was made to resign but if she was, it was another woman (the mayor) that did it.

If the mayor's in charge, wasn't the cop involved also the mayor's subordinate?

Just one more level removed--but the police chief is hardly the immediate boss of every cop, so that added level of authority isn't the first.

She is ultimately responsible for everything her department does. Want to change the culture? You have to change the leadership.

She seemed to be a good chief, she was out on the streets talking to protesters, but I bet she is damn glad to be out of it.

I’m still curious who would even call the cops for this in the first place. To Defund the police, then quit calling them.

His murder is abhorrent, but driving drunk and passed out at the wheel of your running car is something most people call the cops on.

I don't get your point.

Even if it were, it doesn't warrant summary execution. Does that help you understand?

I didn't saw it warranted murder. In fact, I said it was abhorrent. What I didn't understand is why it was suggested "why would anyone call the police"

Because a driver was passed out in their running is the answer

knock on his window and see if he needed help. Then call him an Uber since that’s what he indicated he needed.

But the other point is obvious. If Defunding the police is a new legitimate policy proposal, then quit calling them.

quit calling them. That seems to be a national debate going on, as well. This is a perfect example of something the community could have handled.

Knocking on the window to see if they needed help would seem to be the first step, not calling the cops.

a questionable shooting in Atlanta occurring so closely after the George Floyd murder.

I doubt the chief's dismissal is going to help in short-run, maybe not long-term. But, somebody's head has to roll in these situations. Sometimes, that's good, but not always.

Plus, the chief got into a squabble with mayor and DA earlier during the protests in Atlanta over some policemen who stopped two students. That didn't help.

Police chief will be working in some special capa city with pd.

For Atlanta- a corporate town with business friendly image the best course of action politically was to get the event off the front pages asap.
