18. Children aren't born prejudiced or racist.

It's a learned behavior. Ever watch little children play together? There's not a bit of guile or racism in their bodies. They learn this stuff from watching and listening to their parents, relatives and friends. It breaks my heart watching my daughter explain to my grandchildren that "Black Lives Matter". They just don't understand it, but they're curious and are asking questions. Thankfully my daughter has a Master's Degree in Social Work and can explain the entire sordid past of the United States in a manner which they can understand. It would never occur to a child that, because of the color of another child's skin, that they should be treated any differently than themselves.

It breaks my heart to think that little boy has already learned that he's "different" because of the color of his skin.
