And that, in a nutshell, is what we're talking about here.

(63,221 posts)It is much too serious for a child of that age. Too knowing for such a young boy.

(19,190 posts)It's a learned behavior. Ever watch little children play together? There's not a bit of guile or racism in their bodies. They learn this stuff from watching and listening to their parents, relatives and friends. It breaks my heart watching my daughter explain to my grandchildren that "Black Lives Matter". They just don't understand it, but they're curious and are asking questions. Thankfully my daughter has a Master's Degree in Social Work and can explain the entire sordid past of the United States in a manner which they can understand. It would never occur to a child that, because of the color of another child's skin, that they should be treated any differently than themselves.
It breaks my heart to think that little boy has already learned that he's "different" because of the color of his skin.
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?

(11,537 posts)I wish I could give him a big hug. Racism is the malignancy that is destroying our country from within. Protests are all good and well. However, only voting will provide the significant change we need.

(6,926 posts)I know many of you are not religious, but the phrase "they are precious in his sight" immediately came to mind.
It is such a simple idea to follow... "Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight"

(15,535 posts)Bless the beasts and the children
For in this world they have no voice
They have no choice
Bless the beasts and the children
For the world can never be
The world they see
Light their way
When the darkness surrounds them
Give them love
Let it shine all around them
Bless the beasts and the children
Give them shelter from the storm
Keep them safe
Keep them warm
Light their way
When the darkness surrounds them
