Two infected hairstylists were wearing masks. None of their 140 customers, also masked, got COVID-19

Think about this. A hairstylist hovers right next to people they are working on for as long as an hour!!!!

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Missouri health officials discovered no new coronavirus cases after two infected hairstylists served dozens of clients at a Great Clips hair salon.

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department says the incubation period has passed after the hairstylists worked on 140 people at the location in Springfield. Six coworkers also were potentially exposed.

"This is exciting news about the value of masking to prevent COVID-19," Health Director Clay Goddard said in a news release. "We are studying more closely the details of these exposures, including what types of face coverings were worn and what other precautions were taken to lead to this encouraging result."

A hairstylist at the Great Clips location served 84 clients while symptomatic. The hairstylist infected a coworker, who worked with 56 clients.

My stylist was wearing a mask , as I was. No styling and no blow drying took olace. She also used sanitizer after cutting my hair. My long walk home blew my hair dry.

He did blow my hair dry, but I also have very short hair, so it literally takes a minute. Plexi sheets between every two stations, with one of those empty. THey are usually closed Sundays and MOndays, but are open now for the more junior folks (it is an apprentice/brigade system higher end place), since only 50% of stylists can work at a time.

The young women who work the front are certified to take the temps, and they "shoot" you before you can come in. You wait outside in your car, whatever, until they text you you can come in.

It was a pain for everyone, but it works!

The difficult areas are trimming around the ears and putting an "edge" on the back hairline.

It will be interesting to find out what type of masks were being used. My guess is the blue "surgical" masks, which seem to be most prevalent among mask wearing people.

If Trump was not such an arrogant moron, he would jump on this result and encourage everyone to wear masks when they expect to be near others.

When a surgeon wears a mask, he or she is not preventing 100 percent of pathogens in the wound, but reducing that potential pathogen load significantly. Numerous other measures are taken to help prevent wound infections.
The alveolar relative surface area of our lungs is approximately equal to a football field if flattened out. That's a lot of exposure area of the thinnest tissue in any animal's body between the bloodstream and the air. Surfactant action and trapping of pathogens and other undesirable particles by the thin layer of phlegm gets seriously compromised in unhealthy individuals, rendering much of that exposure area akin to an open wound.
Now, if the surgeon getting ready to work on you were to say "I won't wear a mask during your operation"....
You'd kick that dumb butt right out of your life and go find a competent surgeon wouldn't you?
Similarly, if anyone in the surgical suite is maskless, they are adding to the pathogen concentration in the air, the further away the lesser among droplet type vectored pathogens, and a significant number of airborne. Exactly why no unmasked, unclean person is allowed in.
So, extend the concept. The smaller the enclosed area, the more flora exchange between occupants, depending on air circulation.
Outdoors, for the most part, is relatively safe to go maskless.
Oh, and I have tried to get this across to those who are of the "wearing dat mask don't doo ya no guud" idiots, to very limited success.

Everyone wore masks, always clean but extra clean.

They want to keep their licenses and their business open.

even before COVID if she had the sniffles or if her client did. Gloves of course always. That is a business which requires exceptional cleanliness anyway, due to the potential of blood borne diseases.

So she is wearing them all the time now. She has cloth masks for the customers but they do not all wear them
I know numbers are climbing out there just as they are here.

It worries me a lot.

If all we have to do to beat this damn thing is for everyone to wear masks, that will be great!!
Wearing a mask when out and about or when at work is such a small thing when you consider the alternatives...

This might be GREAT!
