In Tulsa, Oklahoma, newly released bodycam footage shows two officers pressing a 13-year-old African American teenager face first against a curb and handcuffing him, after he allegedly jaywalked in a quiet street with no sidewalk on June 4.

Teenager: “Why are you arresting him? Why are you putting handcuffs on him?”

Police officer: “Because!”
Teenager: “Why are you putting handcuffs on my friend? He doesn’t have anything on him, sir.”

Police officer: “All he — all he was doing was jaywalking. We just want to talk with him.”

In the video, the teenager calls officers racist and says, “You want to see me in jail or dead.” Tulsa police say the incident is “under investigation.”

It's the only deterrence. Every American's instinct whenever they see the police approaching now should be to grab their phone and hit record. The police are angry with the fact that the citizens are challenging their authority, they are out to beat and humiliate people every chance they get. This is a group that values order above all else, that order is being disrupted and the only way they know how to respond is with violence.

Peace and order don't matter when it comes to the black population. They get prejudged, vilified, and beaten or killed, anyway -- especially if they look like they're doing "too well," i.e., nice car (stolen?!), nice house (burglar?!), financial success (drug dealer?!), etc.

11. Truth is, they didn't need to talk to those kids about jaywalking.

This was just a show of force, harassment of a couple of black kids, looking for something they could charge them with. Look at that road/street. No one is on it, no sidewalk...If cops were arresting people for walking in the road where I live, they'd have 50 people in jail every night.

How bad it was? Why did they handcuff the quiet one who did absolutely everything he was asked.....Some sort of high gained from a show of authority is my guess.

busy ones in the middle of traffic (even though there are cross walks at the corners) and do not care if they even force people to stop like we have in my area that need to be arrested.

an arrestible offense. There ought to be more conversation about the nature of streets, speeding traffic, and who belongs where.
