This is what I suggest given Facebooks lax policing of disinformation and fake news stories, and tacit and sometimes overt support for the Trump administration and its harmful policies. For maximum effect, it would be best if as many people as possible accomplish this on or before Tuesday, June 30 (the end of quarterly corporate reporting period).
1. Download a copy of all of your Facebook data. This can be accomplished by the following steps.
- Go to Facebook.com/settings.
- Tap Download a copy of your Facebook data.
- Tap Download Archive.
- It might take a few minutes, but Facebook will alert you when your archive is ready. When it is, click Download Archive again, and a zip file will download to your computer.
2. Lodge a complaint with Facebook. Do not try calling any listed corporate numbers or searching for a helpful customer support portal or e-mail address (You wont find it). Instead, do the following.
- Click on the question mark in the upper right-hand corner.
- Click on Help Center.
- Scroll down until you see Visit Help Community and click it.
- Click on Ask a Question on the right-hand side near the top. List out your complaints and your intent to leave Facebook.
3. Cancel your Facebook account.

I do need something to do my garden sharing and teaching, so I've gritted my teeth and kept instagram (I go live for 45 min each week from my yard to do demos and answer questions).

(12,286 posts)The excuses people make about staying in touch with friends is bullshit.
If they are your friends you will still message, text, and zoom together.
If you lose contact with them then they aren't your friends to begin with

(94,331 posts)Facebook is what people choose to make of it. I don't engage in, or receive political screeds from Facebook friends.
The better action might be to question why you have "friends" who pass along such material.

It is my opinion that one is supporting a right wing run company with an account. The very same people will boycott FucksSnooze advertisers, however, and they may or may not be supporters or even know the ad agency is buying Fox air time.

(146,254 posts)If you don't like Facebook for whatever reason, don't use it. Then, let other people make their own decisions about that social media venue.
Simple, huh?

(630 posts)I'm not saying everyone has to do it. But a lot of people are voicing concerns about Facebook's corporate practices, and it's just an idea.
It's no different than offering an opinion. You can take it or leave it.
Is that simple enough for you to understand? Or is it difficult?
