NEW YORK (AP) MLB letter obtained by The Associated Press says several players and staff have tested positive for COVID-19.

The bad news just keeps on coming for Major League Baseball.
On the same night commissioner Rob Manfred stated he's "not confident" there will be a 2020 season due to failed negotiations with the Players' Association, The Associated Press reported "several" MLB players and staff have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The names of those who tested positive have not been revealed.
This is just the latest blow to a league that hasn't been able to get out of its own way in recent months. MLB's owners and players have been unable to reach an agreement on concessions for the 2020 season and their negotiations came to a halt over the weekend.

Guessing this is going to affect their abbreviated season?

(2,384 posts)None. No collegiate. No pro. Zip. Zilch. Nada.
I hope every league and every owner, every school and every sponsor, and even every player, come to realize how utterly nonessential sportball is.
I hope every city and every state come to realize what an expensive and useless drain sportball is.
I hope every station that carries sportball, especially those whose existence depends on it, realizes what a stupid, shallow, useless thing it is.
I hope everybody sitting at home waiting for sportball to restart gets tired of waiting and either goes out to play some, or finds a better hobby.
I hope the entire stinking set of edifices collapses by 2021 - bankrupted, rejected as too expensive, canceled, unsponsored, unfunded. I want to see high school and college players actually learning, coaches and staff unemployed, sportscasters scrambling for jobs, governments refusing bailouts, advertisers turning elsewhere.
Its too much to hope for, but Ill keep hoping.

(2,384 posts)There will always be sportball in some form. People can play it themselves. They can watch little league. They can watch college sportball after the current sport systems are broken.
These are money-sucking enterprises. From the sports scholarships that go to half-assed students who dont graduate, to horrific costs for stadiums built on the backs of citizens, cities, and states, to idiotically overpaid coaches, players, and staff, to billionaire owners constantly looking for handouts, they are no longer harmless entertainment. Sportball literally kills people, as money is diverted from more important public causes and neighborhoods are razed for stadiums and parking.
Tickets are well out of range for most fans. But those same working people, or students, have to deal with closed streets, lack of parking during game days, or tremendous additional costs.
Its a national sickness, not a national pastime.
