Body camera video: 6-year-old girl cries, screams for help as Orlando police arrest her at school

Six years old. Plastic restraints. A step stool provided so she could have HER MUG SHOT TAKEN. Fingerprinted! You need to read it all.

Turner, who was fired days after the arrest became national news, had worked in OPD’s Reserve Unit, which is made up of retired officers who are required to work a certain amount of hours at the agency per month and can pick up extra-duty jobs for pay.

Over the course of Turner’s 23-year tenure at OPD prior to retiring last year, he was disciplined seven times for violations of department policy that ranged from unsafe driving to a child-abuse arrest in which he was accused of injuring his 7-year-old son. He was also accused of sending threatening text messages to his ex-wife in 2009 and racial profiling, records show.

This was 2017. The child, Kaia was black as was the arresting officer.

A child that young by definition can't commit a crime.

It's about bullying. And someone like this man probably gets off on abusing a child.

These "officers" were just flexing their power and getting a laugh out of traumatizing a kid.

'Second chance': Child, whose viral arrest sparked outrage in Florida, sees House pass bill

A little girl in a pale mint green dress and a sparkly cat ear-shaped headband graced the Capitol this week.

And she shyly waved from the gallery Wednesday as the Florida House unanimously passed legislation bearing her name.

The Kaia Rolle Act, part of a larger school safety bill (HB 7065), would force more transparency on local law enforcement agencies, requiring disclosure of procedures "that must be used ... before arresting any student 10 years of age or younger on school grounds."

House Passes 'Kaia Rolle Act' To Curb Arrest Of Children
By Blaise Gainey
Published March 4, 2020 at 5:53 PM EST

snip

The Florida House has approved a measure that includes a plan to curb the arrest of children under 10. It came after last-minute negotiations and personal pleas from six-year-old Kaia Rolle and her grandmother.

To have a police officer on the line telling you that your six-year-old baby, my granddaughter Kaia was arrested, I just couldn't process it. - Maryland Kirkland

Meralyn Kirkland is Kaia Rolle’s grandmother. She says she was confused after learning Kaia was arrested for throwing a tantrum at school. She says she told the arresting officer, Dennis Turner, that her granddaughter had sleep apnea and often threw tantrums after nights of little sleep. But the explanation got her nowhere.
