Personal: Radhika came from humble beginnings, born in India. She grew up in a loving family with three older brothers. She lives the values her parents instilled; never stop fighting for the right, serve with humility, be grateful, and become an advocate for less fortunate. She immigrated in the mid 90s to the United States to pursue graduate school and became a citizen. She is married to Regi Kunnel and lives with two fur babies William and Andrew, in District 2.
She has Advocated for domestic violence survivors, child abuse victims, and was a Sunday school teacher. She has been a Parliamentarian with the American Association of Asian Pacific Islanders – Democratic Caucus, Las Vegas, NV. 2018 – present and candidate for Emerge Nevada – class of 2020. Her other hobbies include nature walks, cooking, traveling, and reading.
Professional: Radhika Kunnel is a J.D. candidate at Boyd School of Law. Before this, she was a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Cancer Institute at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Institute at Tulane University of Health Sciences. She received her Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from Louisiana State University Health Science Center and Post-doctoral fellowship in adult stem cell biology and regenerative medicine from Tulane University of Health Sciences. She was instrumental in developing non-embryonic stem cell core at both Tulane and UMMC. Her research interest was to establish personalized therapeutics for solid tumors by targeting the tumor stroma and cancer stem cells. She is a member of several professional organizations and has been invited speaker nationwide and internationally. She has co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. She was an editorial board member and reviewer for peer-reviewed scientific journals. She was a principal investigator on research grants from the National Institute of Health Sciences and other organizations. She was a grant reviewer for the National Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Defense, Veterans Administration, and other national and international organizations. She also has a master’s in biotechnology from India. She has several awards, honors, and certifications to her credit.
