"The NMCG just gunned down someone in cold blood at a protest outside the Albuquerque Museum"

Some got shot in Abq by the fascist New Mexico Civil Guard shot someone.

Sorry for the typos. The NMCG just gunned down someone in cold blood at a protest outside the Albuquerque Museum.

This is the shooter. He said, “My father is the BCSO (Bernalillo County Sheriffs Office).”

Seconds after this guy shot into the crowd hitting one person (who is in bad condition), his fashy NMCG buddies surrounded him to protect him from the people. These guys were working with the cops weeks earlier.

Embedded video

The shooter’s name is Steven Baca. He’s the son of a former sheriff and once ran for ABQ city council.

https://www.abqjournal.com/1377702/six-candidates-vying-for-district-2-council-seat.html?amp=1

The victim is expected to survive. He’s in surgery now.

On the Abq police scanners, cops referred to the New Mexico Civil Guard as “armed friendlies.”

WaPo: Police detain armed militia members after man is shot at Albuquerque protest

By Katie Shepherd

June 16, 2020 at 5:42 a.m. EDT

Protesters in Albuquerque wrapped a chain around the neck of a bronze statue and began tugging, chanting “Tear it down,” shortly before sunset on Monday. Their efforts to pull down a monument of Spanish conquistador Juan de Oñate suddenly stopped as four shots rang out.

Most people instinctively turned toward the noise, videos from the scene show. A few screamed. Just yards away, a group of militia men sporting militarylike garb and carrying semiautomatic rifles formed a protective circle around the gunman.

The gunshots, which left one man in critical but stable condition, have set off a cascade of public outcry denouncing the unregulated militia’s presence and the shooting, although police have yet to announce an arrest or describe exactly what happened. The victim is also unidentified.

“The heavily armed individuals who flaunted themselves at the protest, calling themselves a ‘civil guard,’ were there for one reason: To menace protesters, to present an unsanctioned show of unregulated force,” New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) said in a statement. “To menace the people of New Mexico with weaponry — with an implicit threat of violence — is on its face unacceptable; that violence did indeed occur is unspeakable.”

On edit, here's what is in WaPo article:
The heavily armed individuals who flaunted themselves at the protest, calling themselves a ‘civil guard,’ were there for one reason: To menace protesters, to present an unsanctioned show of unregulated force,” New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) said in a statement. “To menace the people of New Mexico with weaponry — with an implicit threat of violence — is on its face unacceptable; that violence did indeed occur is unspeakable.”

Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller (D) said the statue would now be speedily removed as an “urgent matter of public safety” until authorities determine a next step.

“The shooting tonight was a tragic, outrageous and unacceptable act of violence and it has no place in our city,” Keller said in a statement. “Our diverse community will not be deterred by acts meant to divide or silence us. Our hearts go out [to] the victim, his family and witnesses whose lives were needlessly threatened tonight.”div class="excerpt"]

The Proud Boys and Boogaloo Bois ARE the NM Civil Guard. They pulled a gun last year, Doxxed our ProgressNow Staff last week and protected their shooter buddy yesterday.
By Marianna Anaya | 1 hour ago

You need to know that the Proud Boys are the same people as the Boogaloo Bois, are the same people as the NM Civil Guard- the people who protected their shooter buddy yesterday. The City of Albuquerque Police Chief Michael Gier said that APD will be holding the NM Civil Guard accountable “to the fullest extent of the law, including federal hate group designation and prosecution” … but the Proud Boys are already designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Southern Poverty Law Center has done extensive pieces on the Boogaloo Bois– the armed militia group the showed up to “protect property” at a George Floyd Vigil in Las Cruces last week. These are the same people with the same ideals- to protect White Supremacy including the monuments that glorify it, like the Onate statue.

Last year, we covered the Proud Boys and the Hiwaymen’s “flag-waving” rally in support of Trump, where shortly after the “rally” they pulled a gun on a community member.

These are the same people who showed up to the 2nd Amendment Rally during the 2020 Legislative Session where several GOP State Representatives and Senators spoke to a group of hateful fear-mongering extremists. Birds of a feather, the Proud Boys were in good company with many toating their weapons on the Capitol grounds.

These are the same people who claim to be the “New Mexico Civil Guard” a self-appointed armed militia that created a new Facebook page to rebrand themselves as something other than Proud Boys and Boogaloo Bois. (You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.) These are the same folks that APD called “armed friendlies” on their scanner. They are the same people that showed up armed to a George Floyd memorial in Las Cruces as the “Boogaloo Bois” and proceeded to doxx and out ProgressNow NM staff on their NM Civil Guard Facebook Page. These are the same people that we at ProgressNow NM, alongside so many community activists like NM Right Wing Watch, and Albuquerque Community Defense have been calling out for years.

Excerpt:
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police say they have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with Monday night’s shooting during a protest outside the Albuquerque Museum in Old Town.

Stephen Ray Baca, 31, is being booked into the Metro Detention Center on a charge of aggravated battery, Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Gilbert Gallegos said early Tuesday morning. A man at the protest was seriously injured in the shooting.

Tue Jun 16, 2020, 11:23 AM

rather than trying to go by what the statute title “sounds like.”

30-3-5. Aggravated battery.

A. Aggravated battery consists of the unlawful touching or application of force to the person of another with intent to injure that person or another.

B. Whoever commits aggravated battery, inflicting an injury to the person which is not likely to cause death or great bodily harm, but does cause painful temporary disfigurement or temporary loss or impairment of the functions of any member or organ of the body, is guilty of a misdemeanor.

C. Whoever commits aggravated battery inflicting great bodily harm or does so with a deadly weapon or does so in any manner whereby great bodily harm or death can be inflicted is guilty of a third degree felony.

It appears that in New Mexico, if you shoot someone and injure them (unlawfully), and the prosecutor cannot prove an intent to kill, aggravated battery would be an appropriate charge.

I’m curious what the circumstances were that would warrant such a charging decision. Perhaps he got in an altercation with one person, shot at that person, missed that person and injured some bystander? I really don’t know.

We need every protester who is comfortable with firearms to come to protests armed. Don’t let the right wing militia murder us in the streets under police protection ... “armed friendlies” as the police call these right wingers.

The current party line among 2A defenders is that groups of heavily armed men prominently displaying military style weaponry, in a manner that's inherently threatening and intimidating, are harmlessly engaging in free expression of their 2A freedoms. This line can even be seen on this very site.

This type of situation is only going to get worse until there's a fundamental reevaluation of the meaning of the 2nd Amendment.
