Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday he planned to stay on as Republican leader regardless of whether he's relegated to the minority or keeps control of the Senate.
"I do," McConnell said when asked if he'll continue to seek the party leader role after the November elections. McConnell, 78, has had the job of GOP leader since 2007 and is the longest serving Republican leader of all time.
Polls show increasing peril for the GOPs 53-seat Senate majority, with a half-dozen seats truly competitive and the potential for more races to be in the mix. At the same time, there is a path for McConnell to hang on to the Senate, particularly if President Donald Trump's performance rebounds in states like North Carolina, Iowa, Maine and Arizona.
McConnell is up for reelection himself this year in deep red Kentucky and is likely to face either Amy McGrath, who is supported by most Senate Democrats, or insurgent liberal candidate Charles Booker. McConnell is favored heavily for reelection, but his opposition is well-funded.

(52,489 posts)The filibuster worked well for many decades before mcturtle cane along and basically abused it to hell.
If it's used rarely and for very important things, about which a minority in the senate feels very strongly, it has a role.
If it's used to delay anything and everything just to slow down or derail the majority party, then no, it's a bad thing.
But the real reason it has to go is because we can't trust republicans any more. If they ever get the chance to impose one-party rule, they'll take it.
Why should we fight with one hand tied behind our back if they're going to use both hands, kick, and bribe the officials and scorekeepers?

That would fry his butt, wouldn't it?

Taking these people and ending thier lives ends the manipulation, lies, bullying and sociopathy of these fuckers permantly and puts any sociopath like them back under the rocks they scuttled out of.
Eventually we will have to do something to get rid of the sociopathy and sociopaths among us.
They cannot be cured.
They never learn thier lesson and they do not change.
But 1 sociopath causes an amazing amount of suffering and abuse in thier wake.
And yes I hate thier "veiwpoints" because well the sociopathy.
I hate all narcissists, sociopaths and authoritarians because of who they are and what they believe.

If he wins in November, but dems take control of the Senate, nobody is going to want to change from the leader who was in charge when they LOST power?
Ask Gingrich about that! I'm sure he still wanted to be the leader.
They ran him out of DC on a rail.
