Three months after the Covid-19 pandemic forced bars and restaurants to close in Florida, some businesses have shut within one week of reopening as coronavirus cases spike in the state.
At least six bars in northern and central Florida have now announced their closures amid new Covid-19 cases, which peaked on Sunday.
The states health department has since confirmed two consecutive days with more than 2,000 new cases, breaking records set when the pandemic began in March.
That announcement came almost one week on from Floridas second reopening phase permitting bars, cinemas and tattoo shops to welcome customers with some restrictions, as mandated under governor Ron DeSantis reopening plan.
Still, increased Covid-19 transmission in Florida has forced some businesses to shut down.

The AG Secretary is the state's top democratic official. I expect her to be DeSantis' opponent in two years. I believe that she has the stuff to defeat him, especially as he is making more mis-steps.

(31,261 posts)mentioned during the past is the impact of air conditioning. AC tends to help the virus survive and stread. Florida, Texas, Arizona, the South in general are coming into peak AC use from the rest of this month through early September.

Yeap, most likely its AC in all those hot states and staying inside with infected people who "got out" last month.

(82,849 posts)All that effort your community expended to get to the point of limited reopening? And you couldn't wait another minute. And it's just a night out, I deserve one! Because you couldn't restrain yourselves and follow the health department directives. The prize you've won is . . .
You've undone a lot if not all of the good you had done by isolating and observing the protocols of social distancing and wearing a mask. You thought it was unbearable watching what you're doing for eight or ten weeks. You just bought yourself another 12 weeks. At least. Yay!

I've been there many times. Broadway Pub and Grill ("BroPAG" ), formerly Good Sports Bar and Grill ("GASBAG" ), formerly the 200 Club. 200 West Broadway.
Minnesota opened up bars and restaurants to patio dining/drinking only on June 1. Then on June 10 they opened up for indoor dining/drinking with capacity limitations and reservations required.
In Minneapolis, face masks must be worn indoors, including bars and restaurants, but I haven't checked if that's being enforced.

(14,565 posts)Incredibly dismissive. I had to complain to UPS Store about a month ago because none of their customer service employees were wearing masks. It was unbelievable. They expected you to walk right up and be greeted by a simpleton right wing woman without mask or gloves. I walked right out of there and called UPS immediately.
That is merely one anecdote. Aldi has probably been the worst offender I've seen. They have small stores to begin with and it's like they are prioritizing social congestion. Only one cashier open and the line extending 35 yards straight back to the end of the store. Finally they opened a second cashier. Then a third. But the single 35 yard checkout line persisted. Maybe one person -- me -- was honoring 6 feet separation.
Now the senior food programs are wrapping up on July 15th as if this thing will be long gone by then.
The only good news is that I have spoken to two neighbors who are normally swing voters. One lady concedes she voted for Trump last time. But now both of them are firmly for Biden. In fact, the 50ish lady who voted for Trump last time told me yesterday that she can't wait for commercials to show up with Trump calling coronavirus a hoax and that the 15 cases would magically drop to zero. She was grinning and said, "We'll see in November."

Thankfully, all of my problems are first world problems, and I try to keep that in mind whenever I start to get anxious. However, its not easy given our craptastic governor and the POS squatting in the WH.
