Sucks since The Weather Channel had become my go-to channel whenever I had to quick-flip from MSM.

I find Nat'l weather patterns interesting.

I've lived in a lot of areas across the country so as I see weather systems move I can relate to what ppl in those States are experiencing.

Remember that the provider sells ads too.
Some of those commercials might be local content. Comcast here sells ads through EffecTV. We can always tell when the ad is locally inserted. Sound quality is different. Not inferior, but differs.
Even if they have ads on their site, the local ads wouldn't be there. Maybe you miss half of the PINO lie ads.
