According to TMZ, the "Terminator" star bicycled to Gold's Gym in Venice, Calif., on Tuesday morning for a workout.
While Arnold, 72, was wearing a mask due to the coronavirus pandemic, he noticed that several gym members in the middle of their workouts were not wearing masks. Front desk staff informed Arnold that people were required to wear masks when they entered and when they were in certain common areas, but the law doesn't require them to wear masks when they're actually working out.
Upon hearing the explanation, TMZ said Arnold went no further than the front desk and didn't lift a single weight inside the Venice gym, where he is essentially royalty. The website added that Arnold's exit wasn't meant to be a political stance he was simply concerned for his and other's safety.

(26,047 posts)I have been going the entire time since Mid March, except for ten days when even private clubs had to close (except for rich people swim clubs). Everyone has a time slot with about five other folks, and we have to adhere to certain cleaning protocols. The owner spots checks on the cameras from home, and he has kicked people out and cancelled their passcode if they do anything the least bit sketchy.

He rode the red wave in California, but once Prop 187 sparked the Hispanic and immigrant tolerant vote, the state swung pretty blue.

(6,384 posts)The Batshit Crazy wing took over (Daryl Issa tried to take advantage of that) and since he sided with Democrats most of the time and when he was in his second term, they went after him with a meat cleaver. Think he could have rode it out and still become a Senator after Boxer retired...but he did himself in the end...
That being, not being able to keep his pants on.

(89,241 posts)and keep nominating right wing extremists.
The hard right took over the party and kicked the sane ones to the curb. Just, nobody realized the repercussions...but we are seeing them on a national level now, unfortunately.
Gray Davis the Democrat really wasn't that popular and would have probably lost to Riordon...who would also classify as a Democrat in hard right states, hell, he spoke at the Democratic Convention, got a good ovation and even joked as to why there was a Republican at the Convention.
Before the GOP primary was even settled, the Davis campaign was already running ads against him in anticipation of him winning. It probably shocked them when ultra conservative Bill Simon got the nod, after that, it was a cake walk.
Arnold dabbled a little in politics and would most likely never became Governor. But then that asshole Daryl Issa happened and forced a recall. He probably thought he had this all locked up and after being in the Governor's Mansion, the White House was next. Then Arnold cock-blocked him by jumping into the race, thankfully. A hundred bucks says he's still pissed about that.
Add insult to injury, Arnold sided with the Democratic majority in the legislature most of time, even Jerry Brown when he was a Mayor praised Arnold. And there wasn't a damn thing the GOP could do about it. If they opposed him, they were going to become unemployed.
Have to feel a bit sorry for the Democratic Nominee during the race for the second term. He had to know this was a lost cause. How do you run against an opponent that is doing what you would do? In the end, it looked like he was running against Nixon.
Ultimately, two things killed Arnold's political career. A defeat on all Propositions he supported, the GOP went all in to defeat them, but ironically, they all got passed in another form, such as ending gerrymandering. And the obvious fact, Arnold couldn't keep his pants up.
He probably would have taken over Boxer's old seat and most likely last GOP Senator for a very long time...but that pants issue...
And the insane clown GOP still runs things in their party. And are continuously losing ground. I think eventually, the pendulum will swing back and they will get tossed. They will moderate their stances, give the finger to the national GOP, which in all likelihood, helped the bat shit crazy nuts to take the party...and start winning elections again. But as the saying...as California goes...so does the Nation.
Side note, during the recall, I remember Chris Matthews saying "California is in play for the election!" And many other journalist's echoed that comment. Me sitting on the couch, "Nope, Arnold is what they call in Kansas a RINO". Wasn't too long after that from looking at the polls, they dropped that dumb line of thinking.

(31,261 posts)I got was was advertised as a temporary membership in a gym once when I was on a short-term business endeavor, one of the worst decisions that I have ever made.
My home gym has cardio and weight-training equipment, flexibility equipment, timers, ect. It is great to get out of bed and do a workout before starting my day, without having to travel 50 yards. The key thing is that the gym cost little to set up.

(6,137 posts)I cant see it being safe anytime soon. The amount of air being exhaled and inhaled increases risk exponentially.

(31,261 posts)I did that in my twenties after trying a public gym. My home gym is much better and I have been able to change it as I aged.
Believe it or not, the cost is minimal. You should be able to set up above home gym for $1,000 total, if that (If you buy a stationary bike, that would make up most of the cost, nice free-weights or barbells are pretty inexpensive). If you use weights at home, I suggest using hand barbell free weights instead of a lift bar, since it is less likely you will have a heavy load come down on you with no one around.
The only advantage of a gym is socialization for people that need that. For a family, a home gym is ideal, since things an be built into it to allow kids to keep themselves busy while parents work out.

(6,137 posts)there is something about being in the gym motivates me to work out. I just cant work out at home at all, after a while I gave up on the idea.

(31,261 posts)I like home because I can put on my headphones and watch tv when riding my training bike, lifting free weights, doing pull-ups or stretching. So, all of that really work for me, in a gym I can only see tv pictures, but not hear clearly.

(3,761 posts)what I miss most. My former gym "strongly suggests" wearing masks. They do NOT mandate them. That meant we cancelled our long held memberships.
I have some equipment that we have accumulated over the years. Saving the monthly fee has helped me justify new home equipment purchases. We recently bought an elliptical to go along side the stationary bike. No more cars in the garage!
I have started using resistance bands and lately have been gravitating toward them. I like the flat, 41" foops more than the tubes with handles. Using the power cage downstairs for anchor points works well.
We are home for the long haul.

(31,261 posts)I use an actual racing bike, aluminum frame. I have a magnetic resistance stand device on the rear wheel and use blocks on the front wheel. The blocks keep the front wheel stationary and allow me to simulate riding on anything from a perfectly flat road to a steep mountain climb.
I used to ride on the road, but there are just too many knuckleheads in Florida now that don't pay attention. Since I workout only for fitness now, setting up the road bike inside has really worked wonders.
My free weights have machined, electro-polished grips and barbells that are contained in nice polymer, I love them. I cycle between 15 pounds per hand up to 40 pounds per hand in five pound increments. What I have found with the barbell free-weights is that they really cause me to develop a powerful grip, mostly because if I get careless, I end up dancing to avoid a broken ankle or foot - so, I grip those suckers like a bear.
My pull-up bar is sort of cheezy, the better ones were to big to add to my exercise room. I found it at Bezos' world. It works fine for me.
My mat is just a soft rubber job that I picked up at Amazon also. It is more than good enough for stretching and floor exercises.
One of the issues with buying exercise equipment is that Walmart is the only choice here and it simply didn't sell the quality of road bike that I needed, so I went to Gainesville 31 miles away.

(17,254 posts)I bring my own hand weights, stretch bands etc. we stand about 12 to 15 feet apart. I get my exercise and get to enjoy the outdoors. If / when vaccines and cures become available I am sticking with the park. I live in a desert so while it can be hot as hell there is no rain to hinder my sessions. I can motivate myself to use the treadmill but not anything else and it sure feels good to be back exercising.
Edit: just realized you might be from SF. I lived there for a year a few years ago. I was shocked that trainers were charging $150 an hour! So this may not be feasible there 🙂
