A pilot program in Dallas has already been teaming officers, paramedics and social workers. Those who are part of the program say its working.
The pilot program started in 2018 and was the first of its kind in the state of Texas.

Having the social worker be the primary responder should help calm the situation with the cop there as back up. A side benefit might be cops getting OJT on how to handle these kinds of situations should they encounter one when not with a trained social worker.
