The Louisville Courier Journal on Wednesday endorsed state Rep. Charles Booker in the Democratic Senate primary, the winner of which will face Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in November. The newspaper said its editorial board had met with the three Democratic front-runners in the 10-person race based on fundraising totals: Booker, former Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath and retired U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Mike Broihier.
Our informed choice is clear: Charles Booker is the kind of political leader and change agent that our commonwealth needs. We believe he is worthy of the Democratic nomination, the editorial board wrote.
The newspaper cited Bookers experience in local, state and federal government, including as a legislative intern for Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), his work for the Department of Fish and Wildlife Services under then-Gov. Steve Beshear (D) and his work for Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer (D).
The editorial faulted McGrath, meanwhile, for an unimaginative and uninspiring campaign overly focused on McConnell instead of any vision of her own.

(8,036 posts)Very trixy! Amy McGrath is polling almost neck & neck with moscow mitch, so the newspaper is trying to push this dude into first place for the Dem primary, in order to knock out a candidate who could actually beat mitch in the very red state of Kentucky.

KY does not want a very liberal senator right now. We want to get rid of McConnell. Its going to be a big deal just to get them to vote for a Dem, and sorry to say, it has to be a white candidate. McGrath's military record helps make up for her being a woman (I'm just saying, as a Kentuckian).
I am surprised by LCJ, but things are slowly changing here, especially in the major cities.....Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green. The college towns. We will eventually have more diverse representation, but, baby steps.
