I know I simplified the title.
I hope that this officer gets PTO, several appointments with the department psychiatrist and her weapon(s) taken away. She is a danger to the public and possibly herself.
Her judgement in posting this is horrible, her Capt and department need to help her.

(23,296 posts)Why would she put that out on social media?

(86,336 posts)Women in the LEO world aren't given any comfort in having any kind of help when it comes to PTSD, apparently women aren't supposed to get or some bs but I know from relatives in that line of work and they make it very hard for women. Something like this will bring attention further up the chain of command, she should get some help from this, her union should be covering it.

Of course, this whole thing was made up by the police union in NYC...

(46,023 posts)She also mentions wanting to watch them make her food. If someone at Shake Shack could do it, someone at McDonald's could, too.
On edit; I know no one at Shake Shack did anything wrong. I'm opining on what she's thinking.

(6,477 posts)You have to desire your own oppression! And show some gratitude.
They hate the dirty looks more than anything else. It reminds them of the little corner of the social world they can't control with guns, prisons, political bully tactics, and beatings. That little spark. Oh, they hate it.

(15,220 posts)With all thats going on, cops are just as susceptible to stress as anyone else. Yes, it was bad judgment for her to post this. Yes, she needs to be evaluated and not be carrying a gun.
But as a human being, I want her to get whatever help she needs. We have no way of knowing whats going on in her life right now that may have contributed to this obvious breakdown in judgment.

(86,336 posts)I have relatives in LE and some are women. They are pushed pretty hard from within their peer group as well as the public attention they get. I can see where she's been rode perty hard. Some departments aren't real good at allowing help for women on the force when it comes to ptsd and other stresses so I can see where putting this out there will quickly make leaps up the chain of command and get her the help she needs, possibly.

Was she just worried someone was going to spit in her food?

(86,336 posts)being rational isn't necessary at that point.
Being a woman in law enforcement is another place where misogyny is rampant. By putting this in the public realm, she may be consciously jumping the chain if command to get counseling that she needs and has probably been denied by her CO.

(12,369 posts)I waited for the longest time in the parking space designated for food pick up when its not ready at the window, for one sandwich and a drink. When the girl came out she had two bags and neither one was the correct order or so she thought at that time but after going back inside the store and coming back out I could tell it was the same bag and that it had been the correct order. Meanwhile there were two other cars waiting for their orders. This McDonalds has been really short staffed since the epidemic started, and people have had to wait, but most people are understanding and pretty patient. I think the officer just had gone a long time without enough rest and she didnt get that it had nothing to do with her but simply another glitch due to the pandemic. She shouldnt have filmed herself so emotional because it backfired and made her look unstable instead of just very tired.

(9,291 posts)take her gun and put her on a desk.
Then psychology exams. If she does anything on patrol right now, this will be used as evidence.
She should know that.

(25,183 posts)When healthcare workers were feeling overwhelmed in March, most of us were sympathetic. Right now, police are feeling unsupported, and being human, sometimes a feeling will be expressed. Social media makes that more possible today than ever before.
I guess if Nurse = Good and Cop = Bad, then the reaction here makes sense.

(32,932 posts)My OP, specifically mentions she needs help
As do others in this thread. You are broad brushing.

(25,183 posts)suggesting she can't do her job. I don't recall anyone saying that overwhelmed health care workers were incapable of taking care of C-19 patients just because they expressed stress.

(67,765 posts)I see a person under some great stress. I suspect part of it is the BLM activity going on now. Part of it is the Shake Shack bullshit. Part of it is just the whole Corona mess. Maybe she has problems at home.
Who knows?
But that is clearly a person in need of some help and some stress relief. I will give her the benefit of the doubt.

(11,726 posts)Police have a difficult job and have been forced to take on more roles as Republicans cut funding to social services. We can acknowledge that. However, if you cannot see the contrast between health care workers and police, then more attention needs to be paid. This may sound harsh but to my knowledge healthcare workers do not routinely kill and brutalize unarmed Black people. They don't stand by and watch their colleagues do that either.
Police have had an elevated status in society. I remember being taught to look up to police, to trust them, to listen to them, because they were there to help. Well, after a few times being pulled over and pulled out of my car because...reasons, interrogated about what gang I belonged to, I realized that maybe they weren't there to protect me necessarily. I work with police in my profession and I still think that for the most part, they do the best they can. The problem is that misconduct and outright criminal behavior by "bad" police has gone without consequence for too long. The "good" police are feeling the consequences brought on by the actions of their colleagues and of their silence about it.
If nurses were covering up for horrific acts by their colleagues over decades, then they might not get as much support.
Context is key here. Police are under more scrutiny than they have ever been. The privileges and advantages that they have been given to help them protect and serve the community, which some have abused to horrific extent, are being re-examined. That is surely going to cause stress, especially to people (maybe like this officer) who think they are doing everything right.

(16,313 posts)Weve got one person in the thread who could probably use some therapy themselves if your first reaction to this is that you cant stop laughing. Really sick, bizarre stuff.
That being said, I agree with the others in that she should not be doing police work right now.

If u became a cop to get thanks for your service, And were not expecting stress, please find another line of work.

(707 posts)Its the Fear culture she is living in. From day 1 they are trained to be suspicious of everyone and everything. Every stop could be your last everyone wants to do you harm. Women get it ten times worse at least I know this first hand with Tulsa PD. They are overly trained to be paranoid and that is a huge part of the problem.
I had a recent interaction with a guy with BAPD he started out something something civilians. I said hold up were you in the military? No then unless you are patrolling Iraq or something they are citizens you know The people.
This outburst is just a window into the problem of modern policing. She needs help but honestly ALL of them do.

(16,313 posts)His response: Because we have 400 million guns in this country and we have to assume every single person we encounter has one.
I thought that was interesting given that I operate on the same philosophy as a regular civilian. Now I dont walk around in fear but I have stopped honking my horn in traffic and complaining to people if they get in my way at a grocery store or other setting where people can be rude. You never know what mental shape people are in and what they are packing.

(58,785 posts)Assuming this really is a police officer (?????), I don't care if she cries a river in private, as long as she always exercises proper judgement and performs to scrupulous ethical and professional standards in public. When extra tired and stressed, and judgment may weaken, is exactly when they are most valuable and necessary.
This one obviously doesn't respect the standards she's required to work to, but does she even understand them or why they exist?
Of course by now, whoever she works for, her superiors know all about it.
