The U.S. has spent more than half of $3 trillion in economic rescue funds passed by Congress -- with little of the oversight intended to ensure the money goes to the right places.
Some of the oversight bodies are barely functional: A special inspector general was only recently sworn in, a congressional panel still lacks a chairman and staff, and President Donald Trump quickly removed the official who was going to lead a separate accountability committee.
At the same time, about $2 trillion in stimulus money has already been distributed, according to an estimate from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan group focused on fiscal policy.
The sheer size of the pandemic response means theres a wide swath of issues to investigate. But mistrust in Washington is so deep that the oversight groups investigations are already mired in politics. Leaders of both parties have failed to agree on a chairman to lead the congressional oversight panel. And Democrats are already voicing concerns on whether Trumps hand-picked special inspector general for the stimulus can be independent from his former boss

If there is nothing wrong, why are they so insistent on hiding the info? According to Katie, there was a statement in the form they had to fill out that their names would be disclosed. So, no privacy laws are being violated. Besides, it's partly my money and I'd love to know where it went.

(16,254 posts)If not, Biden can open the files when he takes office and expose them all. I'm sure Trump and kin are included on the list.
Just think of all the answers we can get to our concerns after Biden sits down in the Oval Office. It will be like a thousand Christmas gifts.

(11,884 posts)They will answer before the Congress and the American people for what they're criminally done.they will not get away with this, and for doing this their consequences should be very strong against them , or next time it will be worse. Nixon and W Bush and Chaney should have been sent to prison.
