https://www.wweek.com/news/state/2020/06/16/oregon-reports-278-covid-19-cases-another-record-as-outbreak-at-pentecostal-church-ravages-union-county/

The Oregon Health Authority said 236 cases associated with the Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church in Island City represented the state's largest single outbreak. (Five people have been hospitalized.)

The church has held at least two services in the past two months with more than 100 people present, The Observer of La Grande reported after watching Facebook videos of the church's services. "Participants were close enough to rub shoulders and no one was wearing face coverings," The Observer reported.

But in an indication that the numbers may represent just the beginning of the outbreak in Union County, 50% of the tests reported today in the county came back positive for COVID-19. OHA officials say they have tested the majority of church members, so they are hopeful they won't have a significant increase in cases in the future.

Multnomah County reported 42 new cases, continuing its steady upswing in the number of cases reported daily.

Anyone outside of PDX seems to believe its not necessary for them to wear masks.

And a lot of Portlanders seem to believe that because other states are open and because there's no real enforcement or information coming from the government, we must be back to normal.

I do not understand why we dont have a state directive to wear masks, and education on how to wear them properly.

Governor Kate Brown
46 mins ·
As we learn more about COVID-19, we're refining our strategies to prevent its spread. This means increased testing, strictly enforcing health and safety standards, a new face covering requirement, and calling on the public to remain cautious.

Starting next week I will be instituting a requirement for face coverings while in indoor, public spaces for the following counties: Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Hood River, Marion, Polk, and Lincoln Counties. Full details available shortly.

Effective Friday, June 19, I'm allowing Marion, Polk, and Hood River Counties to enter Phase 2 and Multnomah County to enter Phase 1. Despite an increase in cases, new hospital admissions in Multnomah County are not increasing and hospitalizations remain well within capacity.

Oregon's ability to reopen – and *stay* open – is dependent on each of you doing your part:

-Stay home if you’re sick
-Wear a face covering
-Keep 6-feet of distance
-Avoid crowds
-Wash your hands

Your actions will determine whether your local businesses can stay open.

There are still occasional unmasked people, but not very many.

I picked up books earlier today at an excellent local bookstore (Collected Works) and while I was waiting for the books to be brought up, a young couple, both masked, asked if they could go in. Nope. No one allowed in other than staff. However, if they knew what books they wanted and they were in stock, they could get them.

I feel reasonably confident I'm in almost no danger of getting this: I'm retired, I live alone, I always wear a mask when I go into a store. Actually, the local library as well as the aforementioned bookstore won't hand you the books unless you yourself are wearing a mask. Also, by being retired, I have a guaranteed income that while not huge, is perfectly adequate. I'm actually spending noticeably less money than I used to because I'm not going out to eat two or three times a week.

He likes those deep red states. My state, MT, went from something like second to lowest cases and deaths to deep red this week. The National Parks are now open and towns withing 100 miles of the gates are full of rental cars and RVs. I guess they are all going camping since the only lodging facilities outside the parks are open, I don't think campgrounds inside the parks are open. There are no bus tours and most concessions are closed this year. Glad I can just stay home.

VP Pence was actually telling everyone that Oklahoma was on the "decline". I guess that just shows how dumb these clowns really are.

I live in Washington state and we are staying pretty much the same. We have had few cases in my county, but it went up because a group of people decided to have a party on mothers day, over the limit of people allowed, and there was another gathering on Memorial Day, also with over the limit allowed. So far I think there have been around 15 or so that have come down with the virus, and I think around 40 tests that have not come back. Not sure how this will spread.

I pretty much stay home also, but do wonder out every couple of weeks for groceries, and such. I wear my mask, wash my hands, and and hope for the best.

This is only the beginning. Whitmer has done a great job, and all the testing and contact tracing can help contain it for now. But the virus knows no borders and it will be back, until at least 70% of the population have gotten sick, or there's a vaccine.

The question is, when and how fast will it happen. If Michigan relaxes too much, we might look like TX by the end of summer.

We would have been in even better shape if the Dickhead in Chief hadn't kept Michigan from getting the supplies they needed earlier because he was ticked off that a strong woman ignored him.

I have been very proud of voting for Gretchen Whitmer. Michigan has been fortunate to have two very brilliant women Governors - Whitmer and Granholm.
