(9,952 posts)one takes the time to pay attention.
The Oregon Health Authority said 236 cases associated with the Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church in Island City represented the state's largest single outbreak. (Five people have been hospitalized.)
The church has held at least two services in the past two months with more than 100 people present, The Observer of La Grande reported after watching Facebook videos of the church's services. "Participants were close enough to rub shoulders and no one was wearing face coverings," The Observer reported.
But in an indication that the numbers may represent just the beginning of the outbreak in Union County, 50% of the tests reported today in the county came back positive for COVID-19. OHA officials say they have tested the majority of church members, so they are hopeful they won't have a significant increase in cases in the future.
Multnomah County reported 42 new cases, continuing its steady upswing in the number of cases reported daily.

(15,805 posts)They had Facebook video of the members crowded together, singing etc during the service.
Over 200 of them have tested positive in a county that has 25k people. It just voluntarily went back to Phase 1 today.

(13,919 posts)Anyone outside of PDX seems to believe its not necessary for them to wear masks.
And a lot of Portlanders seem to believe that because other states are open and because there's no real enforcement or information coming from the government, we must be back to normal.
I do not understand why we dont have a state directive to wear masks, and education on how to wear them properly.

Not gonna happen with this administration. It is annoying though that Gov. Brown hasnt ordered folks to wear masks.

(13,919 posts)Its past annoying.. its a problem. Its my perception that Oregon has had a vacancy at the top from the start of this. Why was Tear Gas Teddy the one leading the way on shutdown, not the governor?
LizBeth
(9,952 posts)addressed pretty quickly. Calling it out and I do see that Oregon is further along with cops than a lot of places. You also have history, KKK, Supremacists who sit in those positions, too. Or come out to the rallies. Wasn't Oregon rally in Portland about 2016 when a group of Antifa minded came out, starting that conversation? They were solely going after the KKK/Supremacists there, protecting them.

(13,919 posts)Brown did not help with the teargas situation.
A judge ruled against the use of teargas in PDX. If that judge hadnt ruled, Id bet money it would have continued to be used every night.

(9,952 posts)no one is wearing masks but me and employees. 15% I would say. Safeway, mostly. But like Whole foods, 90% wear the mask. Totally what environment I am walking into. But again, I have not been downtown or paid attention to restaurants and bars. I am surprised though that more aren't wearing masks. I would think it would be higher. The people I have been around though mostly distance and are conscious.

As we learn more about COVID-19, we're refining our strategies to prevent its spread. This means increased testing, strictly enforcing health and safety standards, a new face covering requirement, and calling on the public to remain cautious.
Starting next week I will be instituting a requirement for face coverings while in indoor, public spaces for the following counties: Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Hood River, Marion, Polk, and Lincoln Counties. Full details available shortly.
Effective Friday, June 19, I'm allowing Marion, Polk, and Hood River Counties to enter Phase 2 and Multnomah County to enter Phase 1. Despite an increase in cases, new hospital admissions in Multnomah County are not increasing and hospitalizations remain well within capacity.
Oregon's ability to reopen and *stay* open is dependent on each of you doing your part:
-Stay home if youre sick
-Wear a face covering
-Keep 6-feet of distance
-Avoid crowds
-Wash your hands
Your actions will determine whether your local businesses can stay open.
Thats awesome.
I suppose Union County has learned their lesson on face masks.

(25,183 posts)I'm glad we got new masks today, these cover more of our faces than the ones we've been using.

(10,303 posts)Yes cases are going up. I was advised the hospital for receiving Covid-19 patients in the Greensboro NC area is at capacity.
And California? Locked down early... But numbers going up? Ouch.

(32,826 posts)was supposed to be in stages, but for the most part it's a free for all. In my red neck of the woods, assholes do not wear masks. I work with an individual who refuses to wear a mask, even though it's part of the state conditions to open. The administrators have not said a word to her or asked her to follow the law.

Everyone is still told to wear masks in public.

(25,848 posts)There are still occasional unmasked people, but not very many.
I picked up books earlier today at an excellent local bookstore (Collected Works) and while I was waiting for the books to be brought up, a young couple, both masked, asked if they could go in. Nope. No one allowed in other than staff. However, if they knew what books they wanted and they were in stock, they could get them.
I feel reasonably confident I'm in almost no danger of getting this: I'm retired, I live alone, I always wear a mask when I go into a store. Actually, the local library as well as the aforementioned bookstore won't hand you the books unless you yourself are wearing a mask. Also, by being retired, I have a guaranteed income that while not huge, is perfectly adequate. I'm actually spending noticeably less money than I used to because I'm not going out to eat two or three times a week.

(11,495 posts)trump plans on having his "rally"? Was it "Oklahoma, that shows up DARK RED on the map?
He likes those deep red states. My state, MT, went from something like second to lowest cases and deaths to deep red this week. The National Parks are now open and towns withing 100 miles of the gates are full of rental cars and RVs. I guess they are all going camping since the only lodging facilities outside the parks are open, I don't think campgrounds inside the parks are open. There are no bus tours and most concessions are closed this year. Glad I can just stay home.

(11,495 posts)VP Pence was actually telling everyone that Oklahoma was on the "decline". I guess that just shows how dumb these clowns really are.
I live in Washington state and we are staying pretty much the same. We have had few cases in my county, but it went up because a group of people decided to have a party on mothers day, over the limit of people allowed, and there was another gathering on Memorial Day, also with over the limit allowed. So far I think there have been around 15 or so that have come down with the virus, and I think around 40 tests that have not come back. Not sure how this will spread.
I pretty much stay home also, but do wonder out every couple of weeks for groceries, and such. I wear my mask, wash my hands, and and hope for the best.

(4,959 posts)This is only the beginning. Whitmer has done a great job, and all the testing and contact tracing can help contain it for now. But the virus knows no borders and it will be back, until at least 70% of the population have gotten sick, or there's a vaccine.
The question is, when and how fast will it happen. If Michigan relaxes too much, we might look like TX by the end of summer.

They put up with the lockdown for a while. But as weather got warmer and closer to summer people just wanted to get out and have fun.
They aren't paying a lot of money to live here to stay indoors.

(15,536 posts)On tonight's local news some bimbo who runs a gym was complaining about how she feels they are being punished by the Governor for not allowing them to open up yet. Wah, wah, wah. She talked like she had the IQ of a potato, so I think I'll just stick with Governor Whitmer and listen to her.
We would have been in even better shape if the Dickhead in Chief hadn't kept Michigan from getting the supplies they needed earlier because he was ticked off that a strong woman ignored him.
I have been very proud of voting for Gretchen Whitmer. Michigan has been fortunate to have two very brilliant women Governors - Whitmer and Granholm.

I'm in Ann Arbor and see it mostly as groups of kids. In A2 the rate of mask wearing is higher than surrounding areas but not as high as you might hope.
