John Bolton betrayed his duty to his country.

He put his book above the welfare of this country.

He was the one person that could have spoken up during the impeachment and he chose to be silent, and wait for his book to be published.

He knew how dangerous and how criminal Donald Trump was and he chose to keep it quiet.

In no way should he now be applauded for coming out with his revelations.

If Trump's actions were as bad as he now says, there is no excuse for Mr Bolton.

(on edit: Perhaps we should ask why?)

2. Yep.

Just like Adam Schiff said earlier: he may be an author but he's no patriot.

4. I completely agree and have been saying as much.

He sold out his country in his quest for profits from his book. That's is inexcusable.

8. Meh. Nothingburger. The senate was never going to remove donnie

And I don't think Bolton's revelations would have changed any of his followers' minds, either.

It probably has no real impact now, either.

Then again, who knows. This book coming out at a real low point for Donnie, when he's botching the pandemic response, when we're in a deep recession, maybe a kick when he's down might have more impact.

But overall, much ado about nothing.

10. The GOPhers probly already knew what he has now told us all.

They didn't care; they were not going to vote to remove the Traitor regardless.

AnusMouth was right at least in one respect--he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue, and still not lose any votes--in the Senate (although Susie might blurt out some "concern"....).

11. The only concern Collins honestly has is in winning another term in the Senate even though she said

she would only serve twice.

14. That is the saddest chapter of all.

They know and they don't care. Remaining in power is all that is important. Have we ever seen in our history a more traitorous bunch than this present Republican Party? At least, in the Civil War, the Confederates sold out to their own people. Trump Republicans have sold out to our foreign enemies.

12. Knowing what he knew when the impeachment trial was going on

Then refusing to appear before the House to reveal all the corruption going on from trump for profit over the welfare of this country just shows how greed driven and unpatriotic he is, but trump is a threat to the National Security of this country and Bolton did nothing when he should have. He may have legal issues after trump and Barr are gone. Love to see him handcuffed and headed to prison with the rest of these crooks.

19. spot on. He, Pompeo, whomever else was at that meeting with Xi and heard the idiot plead with Xi for

China to help him win election and telling Xi their concentration camps for Uighurs was ok - all of these men were derelict in their sworn duty to protect the Constitution and the nation they serve. They are all complicit in his crimes. They should have alerted Congress immediately.

15. Why not go along with the White House on this?

Go ahead and demand Bolton be charged like dumbass wants donít fight it. Think about it having Bolton rot in jail wouldnít be a bad thing. He is more dangerous down the road than Donnie boy.
Have Cory Booker and Kamala Harris lead the charge in the Senate make Turttle either defend his president or his friend lmao. If done right it would be hilarious to unfold before Election Day.

18. It would not have made much difference in the Senate.

As long as the base of the GOP is fanatically behind Trump the GOP led Senate would never get enough votes to throw Trump out.

I agree Bolton was wanting to cash in but to say his testimony would somehow cause the GOP to stop supporting Trump is a stretch. I am not sure it would even cause one more GOP Senator to vote for removal.

The bottom line is the base does not care what Trump does even if it is betraying the country.

The reality is voting him out of office with a wide enough margin to over come, fraud, voter suppression, etc. is the solution.

20. I disagree re: speaking up during the impeachment trial

It wouldn't have mattered what Bolton said. There is no way the senate was going to convict. The republicans made a deal with the devil and were convinced it ensured their safety.

22. Did anyone read George Conway's article in the WaPo re: Bolton's Mistake?

John Bolton made a tragic mistake. Itís not the one you might think.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/06/14/john-bolton-made-tragic-mistake-its-not-one-you-might-think/

"Bolton also didnít hold back to help Trump, or to spite Democrats. Bolton obviously holds Trump in utmost contempt, and left any bridge to the administration in ruins when he departed last fall. He had every reason to tell his story, as heís doing now. And had Boltonís testimony led to a Senate conviction, the result, of course, would have been Ö President Pence. Republicans would have been better off.

Nor did fear of legal consequences keep Bolton mute. He obviously doesnít think that Trump has any power to keep him from telling his story, under oath or otherwise; heís publishing his book even though he hasnít received clearance from the government. That means he doesnít think anything he has to say is legitimately classified or subject to executive privilege, which in turn means he could have testified to it all six months ago. And even if he left some classified details out of the book, he could have testified about them behind closed doors.

[snip]

The only way to make sense of Boltonís behavior is to recognize that he actually did intend and expect to testify. He wanted to testify, but wanted to appear to be forced to do it. Perhaps he thought that, as a reluctant witness, heíd be less open to being caricatured as a disgruntled, discharged adviser, and his credibility would have been enhanced. So he insisted on a court order to appear before the House.

When that didnít happen, Bolton began virtually begging to testify: He announced before the Senate trial commenced that ďif the Senate issues a subpoena for my testimony, I am prepared to testifyĒ without any court order at all. During the trial, perhaps not serendipitously, word leaked about how Boltonís book would establish a quid pro quo linking Ukraine security assistance to Ukraine helping to smear former vice president Joe Biden ó and about how Bolton hoped to testify.

But Bolton made one fateful misjudgment. He overestimated the character, honor and patriotism of Senate Republicans. It would have taken just four, joining with Democrats, for the Senate to have issued a subpoena. But only two voted to hear Bolton testify. A Yale-educated lawyer, Bolton perhaps calculated that Senate Republicans would live up to their oaths of office, and to the separate impeachment-trial oath they took to do ďimpartial justice.Ē He assumed they would uphold the Constitution. Sadly, he was wrong."

Bolton is not a good guy, but I think some people here are going a little overboard on demonizing him. After all, the enemy of our enemy and all. He could be helpful in the days to come. I would like to see what he has to say before cutting him off at the knees.
