What happens legally if trump resigns right

before the election? Who goes on the ticket in his place? My next worry is that they (the PTB) convince him to drop out right before the election, somebody else is on the ticket - and we lose aaaaall the people who were going to hold their nose and vote for Biden cause they could not support trump, but would happily support any other republican on the ticket.

Does anyone know what happens in that situation?

Not necessarily. Pence wouldn't automatically replace Trump as nominee. n/t PoliticAverse Jun 2020 #3

It would be too late to chnage it. Pence would be the actual nominee and he would choose a VP

Here’s what happens if a presidential nominee has to drop out of the election
https://www.vox.com/2016/9/12/12887632/if-presidential-nominee-drops-out

Note that "resign"ing the Presidency is separate from running from (re)election (one has nothing to do with the other basically).

Literally, right this moment he's fighting charges which might come down on him if he loses the election. He won't step down because the Pence pardon might, and very possibly will, miss charges he'd be charged with. That's what happens when your that damn dirty.

It's a waste of time to talk about him resigning. He knows that the SECOND he resigns, the New York AG is going to be waiting outside the door of the Oval Office with indictments and handcuffs. The ONLY thing keeping him out of prison right now is the office he holds. And he knows it. That's why he won't go willingly.

Unless he can manage to entirely break our legal system, which is his desperate goal, he's in it to win it in 2020 so he gets more time to destroy us while he protects himself.

This is literally where we're alt right now.

Trump will have destroyed the political careers of everyone working for him. There’s a good chance Pence will resign right after Trump without issuing any pardons.

But tht doesn't mean much these days as one thing that has been consistent with this regime is that you can expect every unorthodox thing to happen.

I would agree with you without reservation. It is a long time until August, if the Republicans see a serious hemorrhage of power coming, they just might. Skipping all of those primaries could have been a good idea.

We can not look to history to forecast this election.

Support trump," there would be tens of millions of angry MAGAts who would turn against the Republican establishment, and not show up to vote in November, if the party removed their hero from the ticket. The GOP establishment tolerates Trump because they cannot afford to offend his base in the primaries, and without Trump's base they know they would lose in the general election.

Good chance he will just resign and dump the transition on Pence the Dense.

Then get on his plane and flee to Russia.

If Trump loses he'll spend the remainder ranting about fraud and fix and millions of illegal immigrant votes. His dunce devotees will believe every word of it.

He'll do everything he can to make outrageous moves that aren't fixable or reversible by Biden.

It will be one of the scary periods in American history.

If Trump resigns, the GOP might take the opportunity to flush the MAGAts out of the party. Their first step will be to announce that if Trump’s name wins the election Blake Farenthold and all Blake’s baggage will serve. (Farenthold has so many skeletons in the closet he could open a medical school.) After Biden runs the table on Election Night, the purge begins.

Win or lose the election, if he resigned, Pence becomes President and could grant a blanket pardon. Pence has nothing to lose at that point and there could not be a legal issue over trump pardoning himself, as he theorizes he can. Trump leaves clean as newly fallen snow from any Federal charges.

Even if Trump pulls out a win, he will not serve more than a few months at most.

If a candidate has not received the nomination I believe it would still be decided by the delegates at the National Convention. They would be mostly Trump delegates making that decision. Until the Convention is held the paperwork for placing that person on the ballot in each state has not been completed.

If Trump has received the nomination at the Convention that would be a different scenario.
