FLIPPABLE: Julie Jenkens for FL-HD60

Julie and her husband Dan have been residents of Tampa for more than thirty years. They raised two children, Sam and Max, here in Tampa and reside in the Bel Mar Shores area with their four-legged children, Mika, and Johnny Cash. Julie does marketing for her family’s small business. Prior to that, Julie successfully promoted Tampa Bay and Florida to both corporate and leisure markets for over twenty years working for both Holiday Inn Hotels and Virgin Atlantic Airways. During this time, she served on many travel and charity event committees to make Florida a great destination and community.

After the travel industry, Julie turned her attention to community oriented philanthropy. She was the Director of Development for St. Peter Claver Catholic School for five years and Associate Director of Development for The Children’s Home for another three years. Julie worked hard to increase charitable donations to these important community resources.

Julie is a graduate of Venice High School in Venice, FL. She attended Saint Leo University, graduating with a degree in Political Science. She was elected as the first female student body president in the school’s history. After college, Julie worked as a governmental affairs intern for U.S. Congressman Buddy McKay in Washington, D.C.

Julie is or has been active in numerous community organizations, including the League of Women Voters, Women in Tourism, Sierra Club, the Alumni Board for St. Leo University, Airline Sales and Marketing Executives, Rotary Club, as well as serving on the PTA committees of her children’s schools; Dale Mabry, Coleman, and Plant. She is a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Julie and her husband Dan co-founded and led the Courier City (North Hyde Park) Neighborhood Crime Watch for 5 years to successfully bring neighbors together, clean up alleys and dilapidated homes, and improve neighborhood safety. She continued this work with neighbors as co-president of Bel Mar Shores Neighborhood Association in 1998. Julie started the first Halloween Parade which continues to this day 20 years later!
