As a parting shot, Trump (or probably Jar-Jar) will be allowed to run the gift shop from their cell for 0.001% commissary gum money. The rest goes to a real non-profit charity supporting minorities.

Also, an independent non-partisan (and I mean NON-PARTISAN) Truth and Reconciliation Commission complete with teeth and consequences. We need a clean sweep.

If Trump jailed Obama how would you react?

Obviously Trump is guilty of crimes. But how many deaths are worth losing to jail him? Many of his supporters view him as ordained by God. They would react to his incarceration with deadly force.

I prefer fines of massive amounts.

and wag a finger at him.

People who openly and repeatedly violate our laws are SUPPOSED to go to prison. If we give Trump a pass, we put the final nail in the coffin of that "no one is above the law" thing.

13. We pass on prosecutions for the greater good every day

Manafort’s client in Ukraine accused Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko of crimes. I bet they chanted lock her up at his rallies. Then when he defeated her they did jail her. Yulia’s supporters took to the streets in armed rebellion. Ukraine was split into two parts. Russia exploited the conflict by invading, grabbing control of important ports. Manafort’s client fled to exile in Moscow. Jailing Yulia killed democracy in Ukraine. Jailing her was a spectacular blunder.

We choose not to prosecute hundreds of criminals every day, for good reason. We forego prosecution of mobsters in return for their testimony against higher ups. We enter into plea agreements in part because we don’t have enough resources to try everyone.

Trump is a horrible big time felon who richly deserves jail. I strongly oppose his incarceration. It’s not worth killing thousands and damaging our democracy. Which I think would happen.

If he goes anywhere other than jail we will never be rid of him, until he dies of natural causes. He will have access to (effectively) his own teevee network (OANN or RT), regardless of whether he is in Russia or Saudi Arabia. He will continue the job of destroying this country.

In jail, he may not get near the publicity. Outside, it will be 24/7.

The number that may die in any aftermath of jailing him, will be a lot less than he killed by ignoring COVID-19. The republican politicians may finally realize that actions have consequences, since many of them may be keeping him company.

Maybe America will finally wake up. Hell, maybe the non-voters will finally decide it may be worthwhile to devote one day to giving a shit.

Personally, I vote for execution.

We are NOT a nation of cowards.

Atop the court house sits a blindfolded lady holding a scale. You are focusing on the blindfold, signifying that she treats everyone alike. I am focusing on the scale where she weighs the good against the bad which her rulings produce.

Justice involves both the blindfold and the scale.

by the psychopath Putin helped "elect". Civil unrest instigated by the "militias", if it occurs, is the additional price we may have to pay for our apathy and ignorance in allowing him to seize power.

It boils down to "Do we mean it when we say no man is above the law?" If the answer is anything but yes, our hypocrisy will stand naked before the world.

The incredible rule of law which is central to civilization. It emerges over centuries from courts producing what we call common law. Judges in their wisdom took into account the costs and benefits of their judgments. They “balanced the equities.” Lady Justice has a blindfold, and holds a scale. The blindfold represents no man is above the law. But in determining the law Lady Justice uses her scale, considering the costs vs the benefits of her judgments. Sending one man to jail at a cost of a thousand lives and deterioration of democracy itself is a no brainer for Lady Justice. Let him go free.

You have forgotten that law is based on a balance of interests as well as evenhandedness.

We were sold out for years by this crew and I don't think any of us forget who/how many were involved.

Mitch wants to be their leader? Let him call them all to exercise in the yard, supper in the mess hall and nighty-night/thumb sucking time.

We can take all the money we can confiscate from their bank/offshore accounts and put it into a fund for reparations...get this country back on-track. Wouldn't that burn them?

But regretfully I don’t think it’ll happen.

America’s standing will have to be restored by gaining trust, undoing most if not all of his crazed orders, it will take a little time. Although the first step is throwing him out of office by voting him gone. Trump is/was an aberration in American politics. Taking actions to make certain that candidates for president are thoroughly vetted and must pass mental health as well as physical health tests will further help in regaining acceptance among the world’s leadership.

Appoint a Special Prosecutor to get to the truth. Get a couple of guilty pleas from those at the bottom and work up. Let the Justice Department and the FBI do all the investigating. No need for Congressional hearings or public events. But, by all means, investigate and then let the people know what happened?

Do not sweep it under the rug or try to move forward without resolution. It will not work for the Democratic Party.
