India along with Ireland and Norway elected to UN security council.

China is not going to like that, one bit.

As the world grapples with a pandemic and multilateralism is under stress, India’s presence on the international stage got a boost with it winning a non-permanent seat to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2021-22 biennium. India won 184 votes in the 193-strong General Assembly, well above the qualifying 2/3rds majority of 128 votes in Wednesday’s election. India’s term on the 15-member Council, which begins on January 1, will be its eighth.

“Deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown by the global community for India’s membership of the @UN Security Council. India will work with all member countries to promote global peace, security, resilience and equity,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Twitter.
