This is a victory for America

Jorge Aguilar @jorge_aguilarDC 11m
This is a big, big day for our community and for many communities.

For every Dreamer whose life had been threatened by Trump’s callous polices, flaming rhetoric and chaotic leadership over the last several years — home is here.

Nunca se den por vencidos (Never give up).

My first thought was, so, which of Trump's executive orders is President Biden going to have to jump through hoops for a year or two before they can be rescinded?

After that, I reflected on how this may play out in the general election. After getting over the shock of this ruling, the MAGAts will be fired up to deliver a giant FU to Roberts, while we lose a hot-button issue.

Also, this is just a stay of execution, not a pardon or commutation. And Trump was counting on having DACA beneficiaries as bargaining chips for comprehensive immigration reform that would have dispirited some of his base that he would even consider it at all. I'd say that immigration reform is dead as long as there are at least 41 solid GOP'ers in the Senate. And Collins,
Romney and Murkowski don't count.

Bottom line is, Trump's not defeated yet, and we need to keep that in mind as we work with all of our might to get to President Biden.

...how will republicans be any more fired up than those of us defending DACA? It's inconcievable we will 'lose a hot button issue' that's not fully resolved by the courts.

Especially since Trump will do everything he can to undermine the decision. I can see him just arbitrarily revoking the privilege, sparking even more protests and opposition. Remember, DACA is favored by an overwhelming number of Americans- nearly 9 in 10 in polls for years now, with something like seven in 10 Republicans supporting their path to citizenship.

people win a battle, then sit on their laurels and lose the war.

Trump's only method of trying to undermine the decision will be to use it as a rallying point for his re-election. If he fails to accomplish that, he will try to create the CSA 2.0, mark my words.

Had Roberts flipped to the conservative side, we could have seen comprehensive immigration reform sooner rather than later. Sure, it would have been tilted in a rightward direction, but a lot of people who are still technically in limbo would have their immigration status solidified. That's gone for now.

...isn't going to take up immigration reform, no matter what Roberts might have done.

There is no rallying point for republican voters here (most of whom support DREAMERS staying in the country), greater than voter determination to end this presidency.

DACA recipients...many of whom would die if sent back to countries they don't even remember. I find it disturbing when some are willing to sacrifice others for what their priorities in terms of ideology...sure an immigration bill would be great, but it won't happen in time to save the Dreamers and it is not worth their lives to maybe make it happen faster. What are they collateral damage or living breathing people?

wiil never happen until we have both houses of Congress. It is a complex issue. I don't think the DACA decision will affect it much.

For sure Trump will fight the decision and use it to fire up his base. He is already trash talking it which was predictable. But the majority of Americans will not turn to Trump ovet DACA since the majority supports it. Affects only his hard core base who would be with him with or without the DACA ruling.
