I've always sucked at math problems involving odds. Call me a conspiracy nut, but I think the 14/88 stuff in the new Drumpf ads is intentional. However, it got me to wondering...what are the odds that something like that could just happen accidentally, by chance?

"14" representing 14 words written by David Lane, "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children."
This is correct
The 88 defs are all wrong.
"88" refers to 88 words from Mein Kompf (author Adolph Hitler) about the supremacy of the white race.
14/88 and 88/14 are a common sign-on and sign-off on IRC Nazi channels.

(66,275 posts)It's a very obvious dog-whistle. Although to anyone not in the white supremacy movement who understands the significance of those numbers to the Neo-Nazis, it's as clear and overpowering as a factory whistle.

(15,703 posts)1488 is a combination of two popular white supremacist numeric symbols. The first symbol is 14, which is shorthand for the "14 Words" slogan: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children." The second is 88, which stands for "Heil Hitler" (H being the 8th letter of the alphabet). Together, the numbers form a general endorsement of white supremacy and its beliefs. As such, they are ubiquitous within the white supremacist movement - as graffiti, in graphics and tattoos, even in screen names and e-mail addresses, such as aryanprincess1488@hate.net. Some white supremacists will even price racist merchandise, such as t-shirts or compact discs, for $14.88.
And there was a movie called 14/88. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3387980/

(64,827 posts)Any two numbers from an infinite set? The odds of randomly picking those numbers is 1 over infinity, which is infinity.
Even if they were looking for two 2 digit numbers, the odds are 1 in 8,010 that they pick those 2 specific values.
So, the answer is, no it was not random.

(9,936 posts)The ads that Facebook removed were posted to 88 different Facebook pages, and each one started with a 14 word sentence. See the above posts for a better explanation of 14/88 than I can provide. It's a pretty common thing for neo-Nazis to try and slip in 14/88 references whenever they can.

(9,046 posts)Media Matters noticed the campaign had purchased a total of 88 ads featuring the concentration camp badge symbol, which Mother Jones confirmed. Each ad started with a 14 word sentence. The number 1488 is a common neo-nazi hate symbol that makes reference to Adolf Hitler and a widespread white supremacist slogan.
