Photographer Kevin Greene captured this moment during a peaceful protest in Greensboro NC. "She was having a blast and decided to run to the front of the pack to walk hand in hand with one of the leaders," said Greene. "I just happened to be there to catch this inspiring moment." [I predict a Pulitzer Prize for this one.]

(7,334 posts)I know what choice I would make. I'd be walking right up there with them, mask or no.
In large gatherings the mask may help a bit, but even without one the odds are still better then the alternative.

(12,017 posts)that I didn't even stop to think they weren't wearing masks. Darn! They should have been wearing them. So now I have mixed emotions looking at the photo. I see the beauty but I also cringe at no masks.

(32,802 posts)I get disheartened seeing the frequent North Carolina bashing that goes on on this site. Although I am a NC native and live in North Carolina now, I have lived in a lot of different places and I can, with complete confidence, tell you people are the same wherever you go.
North Carolina doesn't have a monopoly on stupid red necks or racists though it's frequently accused of being a haven for just those things by posters on this site. Many times it's the transplants spouting those accusations and that makes me sad. Why would you badmouth the place where you choose to live?
Thanks so much for showing us another important and beautiful perspective, Heartstrings. People really are all the same, where ever you go and we can choose to amplify the good or the bad. Thanks for reminding us.

(7,349 posts)Coming from WI I can attest to the somewhat derogatory statements from others about my state, I tend to just shrug them off. But I do realize there is some truth, we have some real boneheads here!

(8,709 posts)I never use a wide brush for NCarolinians. If I did then I'd be defeating the purpose of my experiences and countless others throughout history.
I know an amazing resident, beside you, a transplant who's also a DUer. I'm going to alert her to your response.
Thank you for amplifying people are the same wherever you go and choice
