On the other hand, McConnell is quoted as saying that.

They don't finish the quote--there's this annoying habit to assume that when there's a partial or edited quote published it must be the complete quote--which was that it was precedent not to appoint a SCOTUS justice in an election year if the presidency and senate were controlled by different parties. It didn't matter that that part of the quote was dropped 4 years ago, because that was the case. And outrage.

Now, can we say he must have had a dozen pages working day and night to find something as squirrely as that particular "precedent"? Absolutely.

Unless you mean the SCOTUS, and sure, they will. There's literally no way to stop them if a judge retires or passes before the new Senate is sworn in on 1/3/21.

Also, this would galvanize more votes for our side, too. We're already pissed off, I'm not sure they want to enrage us further and drive more of us to the polls.

Not that I doubt this isn't being brandied about as an election year issue, I just see many flaws in it and am not sure they've thought thought this one through.

Rule one is don't feed your opposition any red meat. This is a porterhouse steak for Democrats.
