Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each:

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
14. Fraudulent Elections

1. Why has no one with a voice and a platform called the orange one a fascist?

Chris, Rachael, Lawrence, Nancy, Chuck, Barack, John Kerry, any of our military, ex CIA, Madeleine Albrigh etc......
It seems to be a term nobody wants to touch.

2. the word has such a (deservedly) pejorative connotation....

that it is difficult to employ it in an academic sense, without the pejorative connotation attaching to it. Much like "communist", nobody wants to use it and risk it being seen solely as pejorative.

Personally, I have no such compunctions, and use the term freely to describe our current regime. I truly hope that history will follow my example.
