I once told a driver I was going to give him a great review and he told me he was going to give me one too. It was nice to learn the drivers have a say! I used to make a living waiting tables. When you work in the service industry people can be rotten. Most of them would behave if they knew they get critiqued too.

But I was on an American Airlines plane once, stuck on the ground because of a mechanical problem in Chicago. In first class. (I was also a million-miler on American.)

Guy next to me became a ass and started giving shit to flight attendant. Who took his shit. And took it.

I HATED him! He was such a dick I pulled out my laptop and wrote a letter to her airline president praising her for putting up with that jerk.

During the flight he went to restroom and that gave me my chance. Called her over, showed her what I had written, and asked her to write in her name or employee number and the address for the airline president.

She loved it! Told the others in the crew. When we landed and I got off the plane I was handed a bag full of mini bottles of my favorite scotch! And a bunch of smiles and thank you’s.

I sent that letter to the airline - and got a thank you back.

I can tell you from experience that customers like you can make up for many who are a++holes! And the a++holes are forgotten as soon as the next one comes along, but customers like you are never forgotten! You’re a class act.

...thing to do. I made it a point from then on to do things like that.

I “lived” on planes and in hotels back then. Million-miler on both Delta and American. One of them once sent some coupons, and if there was an employee who did something nice, give it to them. And I would get several of them every month. That I put into my briefcase and forgot about.

Until one flight and I was talking to one of the attendants and remembered them. Pulled a couple from my briefcase and,

“These worth anything to you?...”

Well, my sweet Jesus- yes! There were a bunch of bennies the employee could get.

So I gave her a couple; then dug deeper into my briefcase and handed her a few more for the rest of the crew.

I was very popular on that flight.
