as the calls for advertisers to walk out of the platform in July intensifyThe North Face has become the first major brand to boycott Facebook on the heels of mounting pressure from civil rights organizations over the platform's content moderation policies and handling of hate speech in the aftermath of George Floyd's death.
In a tweet saying "We're in. We're Out.", the clothing company announced Friday it would stop buying Facebook ads in the US in solidarity with organizations including the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, and Sleeping Giants.
"We know that for too long harmful, racist rhetoric and misinformation has made the world unequal and unsafe, and we stand with the NAACP and the other organizations who are working to #StopHateforProfit," Steve Lesnard, The North Face's global VP of marketing, said in a statement.
A company spokesman said that it was halting all US paid advertising with Facebook, effective June 19, until stricter policies are put in place to stop racist, violent, and hateful content and misinformation from circulating on the platform.

(31,261 posts)In the 90s and early 2000s, I wore a ton of their stuff. The quality was very good. I stopped buying, but will restart now, the action is both moral and brave.
Facebook has to pay a price for turning a blind eye to rampart hate being spewed on it's platform.

It is good to see them taking this moral action. I will start buying their clothing and accessories products again, the quality is pretty solid.

Gonna be kickin up a few more boycott posts too.
Time for people to REALLY EXAMINE their use of (and support for) Zuckerberg and FaceBook.
Really. Examine it! If you boycott Goya and use FB. Examine use/support of FB.
If you boycott Publix and use FB. Examine use and support of FB.
If you boycott... and use FB...
