Somehow I don't see Congress offering a second wave a support to individuals who are sheltering instead of out working.

States are going to HAVE to do something, and even the youre not dying in vain, youre helping the economy sadist in the WH is going to have to take notice.

(63,221 posts)As far as he's concerned, it's over. Done. Fini.
This will be his "Holocaust". Not to diminish the real one, but his neglect, ignorance and outright indifference to the suffering and death of over a hundred thousand (and counting) Americans will go down in history as Trump's most salient and worst legacy.
He just doesn't care. It's not even on his radar.

(12,712 posts)I used to think there would certainly be a second wave or more.
Now, with the superficial way this is being handled and how safety and health are being compromised systematically for political gain and corporate profits, (aka: economy) I don't see how we can have a second wave if we have a first wave that just keeps on going and building indefinitely.
Poor choices now could drag this out way past what any of us would have expected and the price will be that things will close down almost by themselves due to the fallout, overwhelmed health care facilities, etc.
With that in mind, in answer to your question: yes there will be.

(16,829 posts)I think it will continue to depend on what states and local governments encourage and allow.
I walked into a grocery store today which provided PPE and most people were wearing masks.

(24,392 posts)extending the $600 unemployment benefit through the end of the year. It was easy for the Rs to say that wouldn't happen a couple of weeks ago when they thought they had outsmarted the virus by forcing states to reopen. It won't be so easy as we continue to lose jobs at the rate of 1.5-million a week and COVID cases jump 15% in a single week, with more on the way.
But what will force the Rs hand will be the threat of massive closures of small businesses. Businesses are being forced to close after reopening due to staffs being infected with the virus. Many only survived the first shut down due to government aid. If no further aid is coming, they are history, along with millions of jobs being permanently lost. If Rs want help for businesses, they need to negotiate that with Ds, who will insist on extending UI benefits and other extensions and additions to the CARE Act that are present in the legislation they already passed.
Finally, economists - real economists, not the ones employed by the Rs and the WH - are already urging the Congress to provide more massive aid to people, lest the economy collapse.
Some compromises will be made - perhaps the $600 weekly Fed UI benefit gets cut to $400 - but more money will be forthcoming because it has to be.

(14,565 posts)Conceding they were wrong essentially concedes the election. The other side would rather roll the dice with jobs and human lives and a polling deficit than admit to that magnitude of error.
Besides, they will have full support from their devotees not to change a damn thing. That's what the rallies will be all about.

Their only concern will be timing it close enough to the election for Rs to get a bump from "tRump once again giving people a helping hand."
