They had been forcibly settled in the eastern part of what is now Oklahoma. It was called Indian Territory. Tulsa is located in what was Indian Territory.

General Stand Watie, a Cherokee slave holder in the Territory, was the only Native American Confederate general.

The Five Civilized tribes are the Creek, the Cherokee, the Chickashaw, the Choctaw, and the Seminole

Some items

* Some wealthy Cherokees had slaves
For a while the decendants of the slaves had the rights and benefits of a tribal member. The the tribe no longer recognized them as members . I don't know where things stand now

*`In the 1920s the Osages in OK were extremely wealthy, oil money I think.
Then a group of whites plotted to get their money. Members of the tribe started turning up dead. This has bern extensively studied.

* The federal govt tried several times to move the Seminoles to Indian Territory
They retreated into FL. IIRC, many intermarried with the slaves who had escaped into FL

* The western part of the state was known as Oklahoma Territory.
In the late 1800s the govt decided to open it up to settlement. People who wanted to settle there lined up on the border for The Oklahoma Run. Some sneaked across before the run started. They were known as 'Sooners' That's where the name Sooners for the U of OK comes from

----Jinx High, play on name of high school in Jenks suburb. The school is the setting of a paranormal battle between good and evil
