Why I'm not worried about Trump rushing a vaccine for an October Surprise:

Trump may indeed pressure the FDA/CDC to approve a COVID vaccine in October, before testing is complete and safety and effectiveness can be confirmed.

Although this could have significant effects on the health of millions who are lulled into false hope, I’m not that worried about the potential political benefits for the following reasons:

1) the companies tasked with producing mass quantities of the vaccine, such as Moderna, may not wish to risk financial ruin by producing an unsafe, ineffective vaccine
2) other vaccines are being tested around the world, and the scientific community would speak out against any premature pronouncements by Trump that a vaccine was safe and ready to go.
3) other countries would refuse to approve Trump’s vaccine for their populations, insisting that any approved vaccine complete thorough testing first.
4) the media will hopefully shed light on this story NOW, as there are many who are talking about the likelihood of Trump rushing a vaccine
5) it will likely be too little, too late to save Trump from defeat, especially in those states that have early voting.

I know that I wouldn't and that probably is true for all of us on DU, and the Democratic leaning Americans as well. MAGAts think it's a hoax and they don't need the vaccine in the first place.

This is a very good analysis.

See Eve the Democratic supporters are against vaccines. I know I sound silly but we’ve seen trumpers in action for far too long.

They have literally destroyed or tried to every positive this country has done and that includes millions of positive issues. No way to keep up. As a collective we do though and help each other. I love that about democratic supporters.

...there are dozens of highly dedicated professionals that don't have a large financial interest in the company.
They're serious scientists, but they just work there.
Releasing a dangerous or ineffective (or both) vaccine requires all those working on it to be in on the scam.
I don't accept that as probable, if at all possible.
Someone(s) will blow the whistle before the first dose is sent to the first clinic or pharmacy.

which is kind of in a different category.
There won't be anything even close to approval for actual use (even with accelerated testing) .. and the Trump administration is well aware of this. Which, of course, will never stop Trump from getting up and talking a lot of sh*t .. but no one in the medical community is going to back him up.

He's going to be left trying to sell, "very positive developments ... beautiful things, really .."
