New record high of 4,049 reported COVID-19 cases in Florida;Gov DeSantis blames immigrants and young

https://www.orlandosentinel.com/coronavirus/os-ne-coronavirus-saturday-june-20-20200620-aznbj5qocfabpdhb2u7ee6lsyi-story.html

Florida reported another 4,049 coronavirus cases Saturday, yet another record-shattering increase as the number of infections statewide approaches 94,000.

There have now been 93,797 cases and 3,144 deaths in the state, which includes an additional 40 fatalities reported Saturday compared with a day earlier.

Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office has attributed the recent daily spikes in cases to expanded testing. On Saturday, another 28,404 tests were logged for a total of over 1.5 million statewide since the pandemic began.

Republican governors blame familiar targets as coronavirus rates soar

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/20/coronavirus-republican-governors-blame-florida-texas-arizona

As new coronavirus cases surge across several southern states, Republican governors are looking to apportion blame – and resting upon some familiar targets.

In Florida, migrant Hispanic farm and construction workers are driving the huge uptick in Covid-19 infections, according to Governor Ron DeSantis, who has repeatedly identified the immigrant workforce as the “No 1” source of outbreaks in the Sunshine state.

Day laborers contracting the disease are “overwhelmingly Hispanic”, DeSantis said, and migrant in nature, adding that he had given a “heads-up” to health authorities in Georgia and Alabama about “what might be coming down the pike”.

DeSantis’s racially charged comments have been blasted as “shameful” by agricultural workers’ union leaders, who say the state has been lethargic in providing tests and resources to slow the spread. On Saturday, daily new cases in Florida surpassed 4,000 for the first time.

being that they reopened prior to it being safe to reopen. Everyone of them has been caught by increasing CV numbers. People will ignore their attempts to shift blame, being that they are clearly in the driver's seat, and there is no one else to obviously blame (but the idiotic governors themselves (and rump of course)). Idiots are killing people.

I thought for sure they would and trump too. I’m really surprised by this.

And the protesters were outside and mostly masked, unlike the cultists.

Immigrants are a popular boogieman for the rightwingers.

needs someone to blame it on. He has been trying to solve the medical crisis by ignoring that there is a problem. These numbers were predicted by the science, and now that the numbers are catching up with the lies, innocent victims must be blamed.

These "migrants", are in fact permanent Floridians, that are without legal protections. Florida depends on these people, those with and without permission to be here, year round, to harvest their crops, build their buildings, and take other jobs that other Americans don't want.

I am so goddamn sick of Republicans and the false narratives, and the hate that they push. It is big business Republicans who exploit those of Hispanic origins while at the same time, demeaning them and depriving them of basic human rights. If would serve us right if all Hispanics went on strike for a month or so, so that we could see exactly what a big part they play in our economy.

as with this COVID-19 pandemic, the causes and effects of their decisions aren't normally as obvious and immediate.

For moronically pushing Andrew Gillum above Gwen Graham, a moderate with no baggage who would have defeated DeSantis handily in 2018.

No matter what happens with my lowlife governor DeSantis all I can ever think about is that it all could have been avoided with Gwen Graham.

But naturally the same idiotic mindset won't go away and the Sanders wing will continue to ignorantly shove progressives into states/areas that will spit them out without second thought.

Look at the breakdown from yesterday's report from Cameron County TX (Brownsville area):

http://krgv.s3.amazonaws.com/files/a52d3f17-7ccf-40ef-9fcf-71fdec3677ee.pdf

When restaurants started opening at limited capacity we were still doing fairly well, but when the governor put the foot on the accelerator and opened the bars it turned disastrous. Nearly all of the younger people will recover but a lot of people here live in multi-generational homes and who knows how many have spread the disease to older family members. Fortunately counties can now require businesses to require masks in businesses as Abbott tried to snake out of his no-mask mandate. A number of bars and restaurants have re-closed and curfews have been reimplemented in some places. There was also a mild wave of panic shopping.

Even more depressing is the news out of Starr County to the west of McAllen; they initially had 7 cases who all recovered and for a while had no active cases about a month ago. Today they are closing in on 106 NEW cases.
