House Judiciary Chairman Announces Actions to Hold AG Barr Accountable
Chairman Nadler proposes funding cuts, court filings, and Committee oversight hearings
Washington, June 2, 2020
Washington, D.C. Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) announced a series of actions to counter Attorney General William Barr's continued defiance of Congress and improper politicization of the Department of Justice (DOJ). The announcement comes following the Attorney Generals refusal to appear before the House Judiciary Committee, the second time he has failed to do so this Congress.
Chairman Nadler and the Judiciary Committee will take steps to protect the integrity of the Department of Justice, including the following:
This week, Chairman Nadler will introduce legislation to slash the budget of the Attorney General's personal office at DOJ by $50 million.
In the coming weeks, the Committee will hear testimony from DOJ whistleblowers and former Department officials. These individuals are prepared to describe specific incidents of misconduct, as well as the unprecedented politicization of the Department of Justice under President Trump and Attorney General Barr.
Chairman Nadler and other members of the Committee will file an amicus brief in the case of United States v. Michael Flynn in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The Flynn case is one of many cases in which Attorney General Barr has improperly interfered for the benefit of President Trump and his political allies.

(51,590 posts)He fired Berman because...
1. was investigateing Deutsche Bank
2. was investigating Giuliani and associates
3 was investigati g tRump and family taxes and organization
4. Barr lied about the Mueller report, influencing Stone's sentence....Obstruction of Justice
5. Lev and Igor's case is pending
6. He influenced Flynn case
7. SDNY was investigating investigating the Turkish bank Halkbank for allegedly evading U.S. sanctions against Iran... Turkey (Erdogan raised with Trump by handing him a memo at the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires in December 2018).
8. tRump's TAXES
Berman implied that the stakes in SDNY are whether our *investigations* will move forward without delay or interruption. Barr replied with assurances only about *cases* now pending. Theres a lot of room for mischief in the gap between those words. There are 5 months before the election...this will put A LOT on hold.

(26,291 posts)that was about to be initiated.
If that was what this about then Barr might have just set himself up for criminal charges down the road.
BigmanPigman
(51,590 posts)But, if tRump didn't officially fire him it may not be valid....if Barr says that the president has fired him, but the president tells reporters that in fact he is not involved, doesnt that mean Berman is still US attorney for SDNY?

(26,291 posts)without permission of the President.
Of course my guess is Trump knew about it and is lying like a kid who just got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and is trying to shift the blame to some other kid.

This makes me wonder if Barr is being investigated by SDNY too.

(26,291 posts)was going to find something inadvertently during the course of the investigation that he did that he wants to prevent being uncovered.

(51,590 posts)There must be a zillion crimes that have been committed by team tRump and we know that a lot are being covered up at the highest levels. I am sure the GOP is also aware of a ton of crimes but they will never convict him on anything, ever, and he knows it, especially after his impeachment. He and Barr and Mitch will keep committing and covering up more and more crimes right up to Inauguration Day (if we even get there). This country has been sold to the devil(s).

I wonder if House could just resubmit same impeachment package to Senate again. She won't, but it would frost Moscow Mitch's fat ass. 👍
