Many of them slept on the street for days in order to get seats in a half-full arena, where they had to sit through twenty minutes of brainless rambling about slippery ramps, followed by being told that their pResident wanted Covid testing slowed down so that he wouldnt look bad, and a lecture about how the radical lefties in the street had prevented attendees from getting inside despite the fact that the people who did get inside know that didnt happen.
I think theres a lot of I stood on line for this shit!?! going on right now.

This is the greatest moment in their meager lives and one they will brag about to their friends and co-workers down at the Tastee Freeze.

(27,813 posts)Read an account this morning by someone covering the line-up outside - said people were literally pissing and shitting in the street rather than risk losing their place in line, and the stench was overwhelming.

(7,220 posts)And kinda sad. If it's the guy I'm thinking of, they asked him what he hoped to hear, and he said he wanted manufacturing jobs (I believe). Then they asked, what did you get out of this, and he said "I got pepper sprayed".
I just about did a spit-take.

(7,968 posts)I don't know how much play it will get (I saw it rerun a few minutes later) but it was a very interesting interview.
I actually think that that particular guy was reachable. But we need to not repeat the mistakes of the past and try analytic arguments. It's all about emotions.
Nevertheless, we really don't need to worry about converting tRumpers. All we really have to do is get our voters to vote and then to have their votes accurately counted.
flibbitygiblets
(7,220 posts)and the reason he voted was against HRC (did I hear him say "I worked for her in the State Dept"? ...yikes...).
But more than that, it got me thinking about the non-racist, non-fundie R's, and what does motivate them. This guy's answer: Jobs. Good paying jobs was what this guy came to hear about, and all he got was a bunch of self-serving whining capped off by a dose of what it feels like to get treated less than human by the police for the crime of showing up.
Good paying jobs with benefits were in short supply in the poorer areas of the country before COVID. Trump hasn't done anything to bring back those "beautiful" coal jobs, or manufacturing (not even masks, SMH). Democrats have an opportunity here, and a problem. We need to really make America great, with jobs to rebuild our infrastructure, our electric grid, all kinds of stuff like that. Obama did some of this after the crash of '08, and it worked really well. We're going to need a lot more of that, and a vision and a plan for long term job generation. That's going to peel away a bunch of Republicans, the ones who are gettable anyway. The racists, fundies/crazies, and the tax abolitionists will never change.

But way too many are way far gone past funny or weird but long term dangerous to the nation, World, and theor own communities and families.

(8,754 posts)Trump is willing to destroy the GOP.
So there are rational members of the GOP that see the party's potential death rattle but there are way too many useful idiots that will fall again and again for evil. Why? Because their world view is institutionalized.
The question now is just how bad will things get before Trump is gone. And unfortunately the people that are open to and vote and otherwise support something like Trump are still there. We are fortunate that Trump is such an incurious narcistic dullard.

And there are no longer any rational members of the GOP. They jumped that shark the day he was nominated.
I hope that he will completely destroy them for decades, if not forever. They no longer deserve any serious consideration as a valid political party.
The same with the fundigelicals. They are a laughing stock. A joke. May they fade into obscurity as rational and critical thinking takes hold again.

(3,131 posts)The story about the teens reserving tickets makes it even better.
The bs claim that they had one million ticket requests just make it better too. Less than 10 thousand showed up.
If they had claimed 40k tickets some 3 out of 4 went to a spoofer. The one million claim means 99 percent of the tickets went to a spoofer. If the claim was true. I love it when a lie winds up making it worse.

(5,477 posts)They couldn't even get a hearty 'Sleepy Joe', 'Lock Her Up', or even a 'USA! USA! USA!' going for more than a few seconds. It was like the 'crowd' (such as it was) just really wasn't into it at all.
Major infighting going on over in freeperville about why it was so empty. Some are trying to push the idea that the venue was limiting attendance to 50% capacity and had blocked off the upper level, when you could clearly see that this was not the situation. Instead of the rally attendance they're boosting the online viewership, without knowing why people watched. (I admit it - I watched it, hoping to see him go even more off the rails than he did. He seemed very reserved compared to what I was expecting. Maybe the Xanax did a little better at counteracting the Adderall tonight.)
