(3,397 posts)The Presidents Shock at the Rows of Empty Seats in Tulsa
Inside the campaign, advisers believe disappointing attendance at the rally shows genuine fear of the coronavirus and the reality of Mr. Trumps sliding poll numbers.
President Trump and several staff members stood backstage and gazed at the empty Bank of Oklahoma Center in horror.
Mr. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence had canceled plans at the last minute to speak at an outdoor overflow rally that was almost entirely empty, despite claims of nearly one million people registering for tickets to attend the event in Tulsa, Okla., and the presidents false boast of never having an empty seat at one of his events.
The president, who had been warned aboard Air Force One that the crowds at the arena were smaller than expected, was stunned, and he yelled at aides backstage while looking at the endless rows of empty blue seats in the upper bowl of the stadium, according to four people familiar with what took place. Brad Parscale, the campaign manager who had put the event together, was not present.
Mr. Pence spoke just after 6:30 p.m. in Tulsa and then left, the cue for Mr. Trump to come on. But there was a delay. Mr. Trumps deputy chief of staff, Dan Scavino, peeked out from behind black curtains to scan the fan-free seats in the top rows.
Mr. Trump eventually entered the arena for a meandering performance in which he excoriated the fake news for reporting on health concerns before his event, used racist language to describe the coronavirus as the Kung Flu and spent more than 15 minutes explaining away an unflattering video clip of him gingerly descending a ramp after his commencement speech at West Point.
By the end of the rally, Mr. Trumps mood had improved, advisers said. But after he left the stage, the fight seemed to have left him, at least temporarily. Leaving the arena, he wasnt yelling. Instead, he was mostly muted.
When he landed back at the White House and walked off Marine One, his tie hung untied around his neck. He waved to reporters, with a defeated expression on his face, holding a crumpled red campaign hat in one hand.
Exactly what went wrong was still being dissected on Sunday. But a broad group of advisers and associates acknowledged to one another that Mr. Trump had not been able to will public opinion away from fears about the spread of the coronavirus in an indoor space. And they conceded that myriad polls showing Mr. Trumps eroded standing were not fake, and that he might be on course to lose to former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr, the presumptive Democratic nominee, in November.

(12,712 posts)This is an interesting crux when it appears that they are falling for their own delusions and lies. Wow.
It's like that coke dealer that starts snorting lines and gets a habit for the product. That does not work out well for business, one way or another.
It's a GOTCHA! That's nice for a change since they have been pulling one over on the country for far too long and the lack of creative variety is also making their Barnum thing go very stale very fast.
All of us, including the followers and their fealty, are rather cashed out, tired, in danger and facing personal instability and these filthy, stinky sphincter clowns want to continue to play on the wave that Obama created even after they killed it literally? It's over. You can't pretend that it is yours when it fizzles out. It's pretty much gone and now we face a world of troubles.
Pride goeth before a fall. Everything eventually comes to an end. This cycle is coming full circle and what goes around does come around.

(17,905 posts)to contain pandemics created by the previous administration, followed CDC epidemiologists' recommendations, tested and quarantined like other countries, mandated social distancing and masks in public spaces, he wouldn't have killed over 120,000 Americans and crashed the economy.
Today he'd be likely be ahead in the polls, enjoying his disgusting Nuremberg rallies and possibly even looking forward to a second term. But, then, that would have made him a decent, competent president, not the despicable, murderous bungler he actually is.
So succinctly stated and so true. In a sweet irony, rejection of all things Obama is what will get him in the end. 🤞

(54,780 posts)"For days before the rally, Mr. Trump was giddy about his first arena outing since March 2, telling one interviewer after another how big it would be based on the numbers that Mr. Parscale had cited publicly."
"Outside advisers to the president said his team was fielding calls from nervous donors and Republican lawmakers, who were asking whether the poorly attended rally indicated problems that were too big too fix with just over four months until Election Day."
Lock him up.
(9,553 posts)Really?? Are they dumb or something?
120,000+ dead (going to 200,000+) without one sincere word of compassion...?
without a nationwide effective plan (even worse: doing everything to twart it off)?
40,000,000+ out of work and going back to work is nowhere in sight before a year or more?
$1,200 for 3 months? That's 12 weeks: They can't divide 1,200 / 12 = $100 per week in 2020?
and then WHAT???
Plus:
Where are their orangevirus tax filings he promised to release 5 years ago? Then 4 years ago?
On which outer planet do these utter morons live??
Lock em up.

(26,168 posts)There's no amount of political tinsel to hide the disaster and trump's inability to deal with it at all. Not only has he been no help, he has actively done things that led to the deaths of tens of thousands who did not have to die. He should rot for the rest of his days in prison for that alone.

(11,187 posts)Or Hillary used her evil email powers to convince them Trump is dull. It can't be that repeating the same old crap at every rally just makes the audience yawn.
Just like always, he'll try to blame someone else for his failure.

(2,016 posts)Leftists and online trolls doing a victory lap, thinking they somehow impacted rally attendance, dont know what theyre talking about or how our rallies work, Mr. Parscale said. Registering for a rally means youve RSVPd with a cellphone number and we constantly weed out bogus numbers, as we did with tens of thousands at the Tulsa rally, in calculating our possible attendee pool. ...
The adviser said that the data could be put into the system to tighten up the formula used to determine projected attendance for rallies.
So, they just have to take the number of RSVPs and multiply by 0.62% to get actual attendance estimates?

(2,777 posts)The people "familiar with what took place" in these posts? I very well could be naive as hell, but I would imagine Trump would not act out in front of randoms. He certainly would not let the people close to him talk to any reporter about his temper tantrums.
Who are they?

(82,849 posts)You're right; Trump doesn't give his people permission to talk to reporters, and reporters have gotten handy (too handy) at quoting sources (even sources that lie to them) on background or not-for-attribution.
