So youre out of prison and youre comfortably shopping in Cub Foods as if you didnt do anything? the woman who recorded the video asks Kueng.
The former police officer, who is holding a pack of Oreos, tells the woman he is shopping for necessities.
I dont think you should have that right, the woman replies. I dont think you should be out on bail.
Im sorry you feel that way, Kueng says after saying he can understand why the woman said that.
No youre not sorry! the woman says. Youre literally out here, comfortably as if you didnt kill that man? Did you think people werent going to recognize you?
You dont have the right to be here. You killed somebody in cold blood. You do not have the right to be here.
When Kueng says he will leave the store, the woman replies No, we dont want you to get your stuff. We want you to be locked up!
Youre not going to be able to comfortably go around Minnesota like this, the woman tells Kueng.
As Kueng waited in line to check out, the woman asks how he afforded his $750,000, but he does not respond.

(25,951 posts)He is out on bail - bless - and the freedom to enjoy his own home/backyard/balcony is not enough, he has to go out shopping? He could have had it delivered, could have gotten curbside pickup, could have asked a friend to pick up a few things, but no. He insisted on wandering into the supermarket with no mask on as though he is still officer Kueng picking up some groceries on his day off.
No.
His lack of judgement is what landed him in jail in the first place. If he continues to exercise that lack by wandering around in public expecting no comment, and in the process is momentarily inconvenienced and embarrassed by being called out, that is another problem of his own making.
Tsk.

(13,056 posts)is very little that we can do about it. That's the way our legal system works. If the judge allows bail and if he can come up with the bail then there you go.

(25,951 posts)The judge granted him bail, he paid it, he's out. Fine. He is free to go out and about all he likes. There's plenty of out and about-ing he could do that does not put him in the public eye. All he had to do was put a mask on going to the grocery store and he likely would not have been recognized.
It may not seem fair, but he is likely to incite anger in public if he is recognized and he should know that. It could put him in danger, and therefore potentially others in danger as well. Not taking that into account isn't very smart or responsible on his part.

(772 posts)of how pathetic the rest of his life will be. Always looked down on, spit on and shamed. Selling himself like a drunken crack whore to anyone willing to give him money, time and attention. That's if he's "lucky" and doesn't end up in prison. It's a whole new ballgame then.

Focus on Police Reform. Actual policy that will change things.
Also wasn't this guy one of those who had just been on the job for a few days ?
This shows serious issues with the existing culture in the police depts and new or less powerful cops being reluctant not to do or say anything when it comes to wrongdoing .
The guy should never work in law enforcement but we do have a legal system and we need to focus on changing things for the better to avoid these things happening.
He should have been wearing a mask also . He might have avoided this .

(18,482 posts)I believe the protections of the Bill of Rights apply to everyone. The Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Amendments say the accused can make bail and go buy Oreos if he wants.
If I make a case by case exception, I am a hypocrite.

(89,239 posts)This wasn't the racist thug Chauvin who should had a record of fucked up behavior and should never have been allowed to train others or even continue working in that job.
This guy was on the job for a few days and did tell Chauvin to stop.
My hope is that he really does feel bad and maybe he also thinks things should have been done to prevent what happened.
someone mentioned that guy he is with was his boyfriend so he probably has experience of being harrassed for who he is.
Also did she accuse him of shooting George Floyd ? I mean , It seems like she is more interested in getting some video than in actually learning about the facts and changing things for the better.
