NASCAR said it is investigating after a noose was found in the garage of black driver Bubba Wallace on Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama.
"Late this afternoon, NASCAR was made aware that a noose was found in the garage stall of the 43 team. We are angry and outraged, and cannot state strongly enough how seriously we take this heinous act," NASCAR said in a statement. "We have launched an immediate investigation, and will do everything we can to identify the person(s) responsible and eliminate them from the sport.
"As we have stated unequivocally, there is no place for racism in NASCAR, and this act only strengthens our resolve to make the sport open and welcoming to all."
Wallace said in a statement that he was "incredibly saddened" by the "despicable act of racism

(5,122 posts)I'm not a fan of Nascar, but I don't think the fans would get access to the garage?

Fans cant get there.
Only employed personnel can.
I would be shocked if there werent surveillance cameras. These machines are worth millions of dollars and I would bet any amount of money it is on CCTV.
They will find out who did this.

(2,566 posts)There was a slack jawed yokel walking around with a shirt that said "I Hate N****rs". So not surprised at all. There are some racist shitwads in NASCAR fandom.

(494 posts)I am a lifelong Democrat and racing fanatic, been a Gearhead since I was a child...racing in any form has no place for a racist pig like this.
My apologies to Bubba Wallace and Richard Petty Motorsports for the actions of this idiot for it makes all of us look bad

(13 posts)Ok, but please listen. I'm not going to lump you all together as long as you don't stand silent. Silence is complicity. Don't be afraid to speak or respond to messages of hate. This includes flags and statues. As white
people we do not get determine what is racist to a black person. It has to be hell to walk in a lot of their shoes. I was raised in rural southern Illinois which may as well be northern Kentucky. That's a big reason I moved to CA. The culture there in the 60's and 70's was and in parts still is disgusting. We need the rebel flag not only banned from NASCAR but make it such a stigma it will not be raised anywhere. Cheers, sounds like you are wanting to do the right thing.

I love Formula 1, but when do confederate flags get waved around those events?
Not all Republicans are bigots, but which party do the bigots love? And so it is with NASCAR. The org cant do all the sanitizing, the fans must enhance the house cleaning effort. Good Freaking Luck with that!
On another note, I feel sorry for you. This story has to break your heart.

(494 posts)I'm what they call a "Damn Yankee" born and raised on Long Island N.Y.
The racist fools who think that they own this sport have always pissed me off big time,to the point of bringing a psychedelic painted B-600 Ford bus with "Deadhead Drivers Association" splashed across the front where it normally says 'School Bus" to a Southern 500 race in Darlington S.C. one year ( quite the hoot, lol) The Redneck Reaction was hilarious, but that's is a story for another time.
Some of us have been trying to get these folk to see that it's a about the Racing, not the Racist for a long time, hell look at the grief they gave Jeff Gordon for years...they really didn't like "The California Kid" lol.

(494 posts)Fans are allowed to walk around the garage area but are not allowed in the the stalls or near the teams as they have to much to to do to prepare for a race, but this year only team members hove been allowed.
My personal take on this...if it turns out that the person who did is a member of another team then the entire team should be suspended for the rest of the year, all driver and owner points taken away, this includes owner, crew chief, drivers, cars and the team number also as well as a $250,000 fine...and the perp should be fired and brought up on charges.

(1,633 posts)Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. is not the first African American NASCAR driver (NASCAR Hall of Fame, Wendell Scott 1961-73) and won't be the last.
NASCAR, like the NFL, should have stood against racism long before Bubba and long before Kaepernick.
Time to clean house.

(9,533 posts)The helmet designer had criticized NASCAR for banning the confederate flag, and had also criticized George Floyd protesters, so Johnson severed ties with Beam Designs:

Note, this was before the noose incident.
Jimmie has also retweeted Black Lives Matter messages and denounced the George Floyd killing.
Jimmie Johnson is from Santee, CA, a city that has grappled with racist issues lately including the KKK mask-wearing shopper that made national news. So it's good to see this hometown hero standing up against racism. I hope he speaks out against the noose incident as well.
Another ex-NASCAR champ sent out a tweet denouncing the noose and saying he hopes Bubba wins the NASCAR race. I'm not a NASCAR fan but will be rooting for Bubba, too, and Jimmie. This is Johnson's last racing season.
