Firefox is like Chrome: right click and Copy Image Location. Not sure about Microsoft Edge.

For YouTube links, DU won't jump to a particular time, so directing people to part of a clip needs to be done by telling people where to start watching (e.g. "the relevant part starts at the 4:20 mark&quot .

A bigger and more complicated issue is that many sites now have shells or overlays that prevent hot linking directly to an image. For those you need to copy them to your desktop and upload them to a hosting site like Imgur.

It also might be good to add something about truncating long URLs after a "?".

...usually goes up at Daily Kos, and ther's usually someone who makes a post here linking to it. Unless they clean up the URL, after the image you'll see text starting with a question mark followed by a string of numbers and/or letters.

I won't be able to use my desktop computer until this afternoon, and it'll be much easier to provide a clear example from that.

If from the internet, right-click on the image and select "Copy Image Address". Then, right-click inside your post and select "Paste".

If the image is on your computer, you will have to upload it to an image hosting site like https://imgur.com/gallery/2Vdtu (this is a tutorial on how to upload images and share them on Imgur).

Caveat: For some reason, some images on the internet are nearly impossible to post, and I suspect it's by design to cut down on bandwidth piracy.

On the internet issue, sometimes you get a link like

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EbEoBdkX0As3Gas?format=jpg&name=medium

all you need to do is change the link to (and I'm putting the space before .jpg and Capital J in "media" to stop the picture replacing the fixed link)

https://pbs.twimg.com/meJdia/EbEoBdkX0As3Gas .jpg

otherwise it would appear like this

Other times, when i right click on the picture (if i am having issues copying) I click on Inspect, and find the link that way, in the Media folder.

Worst case, I use the Snip & Sketch free app to screenshot it and the host the pic.

I've all but given up trying to post pbs.twimg.com images.

On my own, I've discovered how to defeat a couple of others, like deleting all the pesky +'s embedded in the links.

Once you get your image uploaded to a service like imgur, select "Get share links", and then copy the URL code. Paste into a post here as is, like this:

You do not need to bracket the image URL including suffix with . DU software will automatically recognize it as an image and post it. If you do include the , they'll just show up as extra text by the image. If that happens, just edit your post to remove the text from the image address.

If you have a photo on another web site with a known format such as jpg, just post that address (including the .jpg, .gif, .png suffix).

Easy peasy, really.

...is to right-click on the image and select "Open image in new tab". Then you can go to that new tab and, like magic, there's the link all nice and purdy without all those "&"s and "+"s and "="s and other strange stuff. Then you can copy that link and paste it in the post. Usually it works, sometimes it doesn't. It has the advantage of showing you exactly what the DU software is going to see.

Hint #2: Preview before posting. Always, always, always.
