On CNN Monday, following the incident where a noose was found in the garage of Black NASCAR racer Bubba Wallace, sports reporter Andy Scholes said that NASCARs decision to prohibit the Confederate battle banner at their events and properties has only led to a surge of support for the symbol among many NASCAR fans.
The Confederate flag is banned on the grounds of the NASCAR racetrack and events, but it was definitely still around, said Scholes. as A plane was flying over the track before the storms rolled in with a huge flag saying Defund NASCAR. And on the streets there were multiple gift shops selling Confederate flag items. I spoke to some of the gift shop owners and fans and asked them their thoughts on the Confederate flag ban.
Its a heritage thing with the Southern people, said one person. I think until you bring it up, its not a racist thing for them.
I really didnt have a problem with the flag, said another. Its just, I feel like they are taking peoples rights away.
The shop owners I spoke with as well say they have seen an increase in business of Confederate flag items since the NASCAR ban went into place, said Scholes. They say those owners are going to continue to go to NASCAR events and be outside of the grounds selling Confederate flag items and, guys, I also saw multiple cars with Confederate flags driving up and down the roads around the speedway. Clearly there are people out there still trying to make a statement.

In other words, "I'm a dumbass white racist and I just can't stop."
THAT'S the statement they are making!

Just a reminder that the Confederacy only existed for five years.
Its not Ireland where centuries of ancestors lived and died. Its not your heritage.
Nirvana lasted longer than the Confederacy.
Youre not proud of those five years of your great -great -great -great grandfathers life. You like the white supremacy. You can stop pretending its something else.

(16,616 posts)and this article omits one comment by a person between the "It's a heritage thing" and the "I didn't really have a problem with the flag" interviewees who agreed with the removal of the flag. This isn't an exact quote but it's close:
"I come here for the racing. As far as the flag goes, I'm glad they did it. It's a move in the right direction."
I'm adding this for what it's worth. I don't understand why the authors of this story left that quote out. It's not as if it would take up too much space.

2. Is being a kid yelling "You aren't the boss of me." And having a slap out fit because mommy put an old broken toy in the giveaway basket.

(82,849 posts)I don't recall where I saw it, but the "heritage" argument was being taken for a walk when someone chipped in with, "Well, my great-great grandfather and two of his brothers signed up for the Indiana 133rd Irregulars [or whatever]. It's my family's heritage to shoot any treasonous rebel sumbitch flying that flag."
It impressed me as a pretty good counterargument.
